#DeGea showing how to deal with a long range 1v1!

He initially stays deep & therefore doesn’t gift an easy chip/sidefoot finish by maximising his reaction time!

But once #Antonio takes the additional touch #DDG rushes out quickly & forms the block & snuffs out the shot!

#MUFC
If #DeGea had rushed out to engage this touch he would’ve turned a 38% goal probability chance into a 61% goal probability chance as MA could’ve easily rounded him or chipped him!

By waiting he dictated the 1v1 to MA & made him make a decision, MA chose to take another touch…
This is when #DeGea really nailed it!

Rather than continuing to stay deep #DeGea realised that now MA was close enough that his reaction time may not be enough to save the shot so he rushed & formed the premeditated block barrier reducing the goal probability to 34%!

#DeGea struggles with close range 1v1s continue!

His decision making is good, as he doesn’t engage too soon & only engages once he cannot to react in time to the shot, but his problem is, as always, the way he twists his body away from contact which leaves gaps in his barrier! ImageImageImageImage
My model finds that if #DeGea had engaged the 1st touch the chance would’ve been 0.64 ExG because even though the 1v1 is quite far from goal engaging in that location would make the GK very vulnerable to the chip, sidefoot finish, and being rounded. Image
Engaging the 2nd touch, as #DeGea does, means the chance is actually 0.42 ExG as even though the 1v1 is closer to goal when the GK engages here there is usually very little space to exploit over, through, or round the GK!

Thus #DeGea’s decision was certainly a good one! Image

Listening to Julia Spiegelman call out the way that French language textbooks present French colonization as justifiable (it is not), Francophone places as places to leave (they are not), and as the Francophonie as a product to consume (it is not). #ddfc @DdfcTweets 1/4
She notes the essentializing discourses that occur in our textbooks that --if not laid bare, questioned, and upended-- leave our students with MISrepresentations. This plays out through: 2/4
Power & domination, reduction and devaluation of francophone cultures, misalignment with intercultural understanding, justification of colonization as an endorsement of (White) French supremacy, & a strategic alignment of an American tourist role w/ a French tourist role 3/4

#DDG has the lowest PSxG/SoT in the league at 0.28

PSxG/SoT is Post Shot Expected Goals per Shot on Target

Higher numbers indicate more difficult to stop/more likely to score the shots on target faced by the keeper are

Meaning DDG has faced the easiest shots in the league
#DDG also has a PSxG+/- of +0.3 which is only the 14th best in the league

Higher numbers indicate better luck or shot stopping ability

Henderson has the highest in the league at +8.1

PSxG+/- p90 (same metric per 90) for DDG is + 0.01

For Henderson it's +0.24 or 24 times
For the first time yesterday Ole did openly admit DDG should have done better.

For me personally beyond all the numbers, the biggest issue is, I no longer feel confident that DDG can stop it when someone winds up to shoot at our goal.

Competition will do him good.
