A few days back, 2 Data Analyst newbies showed me mistakes they encountered during their analysis process. It dawned on me that lots of times, we don't diligently follow through the data analysis process, especially the cleaning phase.
In this short🧵, I break down this process. Image
PHASE 1: ASK QUESTIONS
The first step in the analysis process is to formulate a problem to solve or a question to answer, such as: are customers aged 21 to 30 more likely to churn than customers aged 41 to 50? As analysts, we must be very curious, we must ASK QUESTIONS!
PHASE 2: Collect & Store Data
Next, we need to collect and store the necessary data, which could require the use of a database or a spreadsheet. For large datasets, we store them in a database. For datasets shy of a million records, spreadsheet software like Excel can be used.

Happy Sunday Everyone,

I think I am feeling well enough to make this tweet

So I want to share a small win here. I am participating in the Data Analytics Super League organized by @lighthall_co and I want to share that I advanced to level 3 in flying colors

Top of the table😁 ImageImage
The Level 2 challenge was a murder mystery challenge to find who the killer is and we were to solve the challenge using SQL

If you dug deeper you'd find out that there was someone who hired it.

Nothing complex but it was fun, felt like a detective 😊 ImageImage
My submission: drive.google.com/drive/folders/…

If you want to try it out yourself and have fun with SQL, check here

Thank you @lighthall_co and @thenaijacarguy for the challenge

it is getting really interesting and level 3 is not easy

2022 adalah salah satu tahun menyenangkan bagi gue. Belajar data science adalah satu hal yg nggubah hidup banget, dapet skill baru, sampe ikutan kompetisi dan dapet penghargaan kecil-kecilan.

#DataFam

Gue share ya, apa yg ngubah gue saat belajar Data Science / Data Analytics.
Disclaimer

Hi #datafam, here’s a sunburst chart I made using Excel. This #viz shows how each economic sector contributed to Nigeria’s GDP in 2020. Data was obtained from CBN. Here's a thread with instructions on how to create this #viz in Excel.

🧵🧵
A Sunburst Chart is made up of an inner circle encircled by rings representing higher degrees of hierarchy. Each segment's angle is proportionate to a value or split evenly under its parent node.
The sunburst chart is best used for presenting hierarchical data.

7 things you must absolutely avoid as a data analyst when creating a report for your boss or clients.

#DataFam #DataAnalytics #AllAboutTheData
1. Data confusion

There's nothing worse than looking at a dashboard or report and being confused:

• Where did the data come from?
• When was it last updated?
• Any additional context?

These questions will come up so include the answers directly in your analysis.
2. Not telling a story

Your analysis has to have a point.

Otherwise, it's a waste of time and money.

Instead, spell out exactly why your audience should care about the work you've done.

Don't make the mistake of "letting the work stand on its own". Nobody's got time for that!

I said go to Twitter and search on #dataviz or #datafam. Someone else in the workshop mentioned Tableau Public.

Here's how you can produce a clean chart that your audience can easily read and understand, without much ado.

Follow along 🤗

#RStats #DataScience #dataviz #DataAnalytics #DataFam
1. Remove gridlines and axis lines from your chart, unless it's difficult to track the points you've plotted without them.

#RStats #tidyverse #datafam #dataviz #DataScience
2. Add trend lines/reference lines to guide the audience on what the numbers were expected to look like vis-a-vis what they actually look like.

Ensure the color scheme of the trend lines doesn't overshadow the plot. Keep them subtle, probably in grey

Creating a good #dataviz with the right colours might seem like a herculean task, but it's not.

So, here are six pointers that might help ease your process. Follow along 🤗

#datafam #DataAnalytics #RStats #DataScience
1. Use as few colours as possible to convey your idea - try & look for means to group your variables in such a way that fewer colours can be used to convey your point better.
Eg: Top N products in one colour & the others in another, instead of one colour for each product
2. Use gray in your chart - it is strong enough to be distinguished from white so your variable won't blend into the background, and you can easily combine it with a stronger colour like red if you want to show contrast or highlight another variable

I am so so incredibly proud of @LisaTrescott! [a thread]

When the #IronViz feeders launched this year I wanted to encourage participation, particularly from first-time entrants. Every year, I hear from people who are apprehensive about entering #IronViz for various reasons
1/n
Perhaps it's imposter syndrome, perhaps they feel like they don't have the skills or experience required. Regardless of the reason, when the feeder entries start to come through on social media, it is intimidating...for all of us!

2/n
That's one of the main drivers that led me to launch #IronQuest in 2019. I wanted to provide people with a platform to practice #IronViz-style skills in a safe environment, all year round. A key element of IronQuest is feedback, which all participants can opt-in for.
