(1/4) #Floods are becoming frequent in Himalaya, particularly in the NW #Himalaya that has been related to the increasing impact of changing #climate
@SundriyalY @neh4chauhan @kaushik_kaush5 @firozgeologist
#Uttarakhand, NW #Himalaya has witnessed 2 major flood events in the last decade that killed >6000 people. This study is an attempt to explore the impact of potential flood on river bank slopes in Uttarakhand. (2/4)
We found that #slope material at the exposed #fluvial sequence and slope toe might displace forward ~0.12-0.4 m The potential #debris #flow from the slope may impact the retaining wall, supporting the slope, with a #pressure up to 150 k Pa. (3/4)

#Update #Space #Telescope #Debris #Asia

A new telescope facility in the Himalayan range will now keep a watch on the overhead sky to identify transient or variable objects such as #supernovae, #gravitational lenses, #space #debris, and #asteroids. 1/n
Commissioned at Devasthal in Uttarakhand, it'll help survey the sky making it possible to observe #galaxies & other astronomical sources just by staring at the strip of sky that passes overhead. It's the first liquid mirror telescope in India & the largest in Asia. 2/n
Built by astronomers from India, Belgium and Canada, the novel instrument employs a 4m diameter rotating mirror made up of a thin film of liquid mercury to collect and focus light. It’s at an altitude of 2,450m at @ARIESNainital Devasthal observatory campus. 3/n

Here’s the first one. #Thread #Satellites #Debris

Exclusive: More than 10yrs after it was launched, #MeghaTropiques, @isro & @CNES joint weather modelling satellite that was studying water cycle & energy exchanges in the tropics has reached what’s called “end of mission”. 1/n
The satellite, which was launched in October 2011 and initially estimated to have a life of five years has worked for five-years-and-six-months more than initial estimations and sent in at least 5TB of raw data which has yielded around 30TB of data sitting on various servers. 2/n
A senior Isro scientist said: “As on date, the satellite still has 120kg of fuel and end of mission is also not because of failures in communication, solar panels or any other systems or because we lost communication. All of those are still working.” 3/n

The Abecedarians, the first band alphabetically in my collection. I’m not sure I have listened to this since I bought it. Fac 117, is a 12” 45, just two tracks, electronic with nods to other Factory bands. No idea what happened to them.

Backstory: In an effort to listen to a wider variety of the music I own for the first half of this year I’m dedicating a week to each letter. I thought I’d start with the disc that has sat leftmost on the shelves since some time in the eighties!
A Certain Ratio. A couple from them today, between the two marking a huge change from fucked to funky.

If removing weeds from your garden doesn't provide you clarity about the #repentance process, you're either weeding wrong or repenting wrong. 1/

Thread me. #DezNat Image
Everyone knows this, but if you don't get out the entire root structure, it's coming back. (This is also a sin commentary). Roots don't want to give up their ground. That's Satan's whole strategy. 2/ Image
Weeding is simpler when the soil is moist/soft (read: humble) as opposed to scorched/hardened (read: prideful). Get your foundation right first. 3/ Image
