Ariel opens our discussion by naming the importance of how employment is a massive predictor of survival for LGBTQ people, particularly those who hold multiple marginalized identities. Black LGBTQ people, particularly Black trans women, are disproportionately denied employment.
.@omargp analyzes a macroscopic perspective of Title VII interpretations.

Cites Glenn v. Brumby. This ruling in 2011 found discrimination based on transgender status is sex discrimination.

We're waiting to see if the Supreme Court will release a decision on the Title VII LGBTQ cases, ruling whether or not your employer can fire you over your sexual orientation or gender identity.
Additionally there are ALSO SCOTUS decisions pending on abortion and DACA.

We'll be monitoring the release of opinions beginning at 10AM, and we'll keep you updated.
#BREAKING: WIN!

Supreme Court just ruled that firing someone for being LGBTQ is a VIOLATION of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act!

Good morning. We are waiting for Supreme Court opinions to begin being released at 10am ET.

Today, the Supreme Court could decide if your employer can fire you for being LGBTQ.

The fact that this is up for debate is absurd.
JUST IN: The Court has announced that opinions will be released not one after the other, but spaced 10 minutes apart.

You know, in case we weren't feeling enough suspense.
While we're waiting, get yourself caught up on the facts. #DecisionDay

So um, about tomorrow. The Supreme Court will be releasing opinions tomorrow morning.

They could potentially decide if your employer can legally fire you for being LGBTQ.
Yeah, this ... Doesn’t feel great!

But, we are taking lots of deep breaths and keeping our fingers crossed.

Here’s a backgrounder to get you up to speed released by our Litigation Director @DianaKFlynn just before the arguments in these cases in 2019.

Today was not the day.

One SCOTUS opinion released (not the ones we were waiting for) and they're done for the day.

Next #DecisionDay TBD.

We've been explaining to the courts for years how Title VII protects LGBTQ employees.

If you would fire a man for marrying a man, but would not fire a woman for marrying a man, that's sex discrimination! #DecisionDay

Good morning. Today is another SCOTUS #DecisionDay.

In just a few minutes, the Supreme Court could issue their opinion on whether or not the Civil Rights Act protects #LGBTQ workers. It's kind of a big deal!
How did we get here? Here's a blog by our Senior Counsel and the Director of Lambda Legal's Employment Fairness Project, Greg Nevins chronicling the case law that brought us to this moment. #DecisionDay

Good morning. It's another #DecisionDay at #SCOTUS.

Today, they may issue a ruling on whether the Civil Rights Act protects employees from sexual orientation & gender identity discrimination.

We'll keep you updated.
"In light of Title VII’s clear language prohibiting discrimination because of sex, these cases should be quite easy for the court to resolve in the employees’ favor." Read this explainer from our own @SharonMcGowanDC & @civilrightsorg's @vanitaguptaCR.

➡️ Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination "based on sex."
➡️ If you would fire a man for marrying a man but not a woman, it's sex discrimination.
➡️ If you would fire anyone for not conforming to sex-based stereotypes, it's sex discrimination. #DecisionDay

Today is another #DecisionDay at #SCOTUS.

We're waiting on a ruling in cases concerning whether the Civil Rights Act protects employees from sexual orientation & gender identity discrimination.

Needless to say, the stakes are high.
The question at the heart of this is simple: "If an employer fires a worker of one sex, in circumstances where it would not fire someone of another sex, it has committed illegal sex discrimination."
