The new #Italian law, frames #SeaRescue as ‘abetting illegal migration’, a complete myth & lie. Closed ports, push-backs & failures to provide assistance at #sea violate international laws, maritime #SAR conventions & migrants’ rights. #Libya is a war-zone, not a #SafeHarbour!
Criminalising those who rescue lives, this law is yet another #European effort to actively let migrants die at sea. Letting them drown is a strategy intended to deter other #migrants from crossing. This does not work - it just amplifies suffering. #BordersKill
Das Gericht entließ Cpt. #CarolaRackete aus einer Reihe von Gründen:

2. Die Richterin betonte, dass der Entschluss der Kapitänin der #SeaWatch3, den Hafen von #Lampedusa als nächsten „Place of Safety“ anzulaufen, notwendig war. #Libyen & #Tunisien könnten nicht als sichere Häfen angesehen werden.
3. Darüber hinaus sei die neue #Salvini-Verordnung "nicht auf Rettungseinsätze anwendbar", da sie sich nur auf das Handeln von Schmugglern beziehe. Die Verordnung war kurz nach der Rettung am 12 Juni noch hastig vom italienischen Innenministerium in Kraft gesetzt worden.
Alle 22.05CEST Alarm Phone è stato contattato da una barca in difficoltà al largo della Libia. Le 90 persone a bordo hanno visto vari velivoli e un elicottero militare nelle vicinanze. Considerando la descrizione dalla barca crediamo sia la stessa già avvistata da #Moonbird
Le autorità sono state informate della barca in difficoltà questa mattina. Un’imbarcazione dell’ @ItalianNavy ha monitorato la situazione da vicino ma non ha offerto assistenza. Condanniamo questi continui atti di mancata assistenza e richiediamo adeguato soccorso immediatamente!
La situazione sta degenerando. Alle 23.47h CEST le persone a bordo ci hanno detto che un lato del gommone si é sgonfiato e sta entrando acqua. Non hanno più carburante e sono alla deriva. Dicono che non sopravviveranno la notte se lasciati a mare.
At 22.05h CEST the Alarm Phone was contacted by a boat in distress off Libya. The 90 people have seen multiple aircrafts and a military helicopter nearby. Based on their description of the boat we believe it is the same boat spotted by #Moonbird earlier.
Since this morning authorities are informed about this distress case. An @ItalianNavy vessel monitored the situation closely but did not render assistance. We condemn these repeated acts of non-assistance & demand the immediate launch of an adequate rescue operation.
The situation on board is deteriorating. At 23.47h the people told us that one of the tubes of the rubber boat burst. Water is entering the boat. They have no fuel left and cannot move. They say they won't survive if they are out at sea the whole night.
