The dilemma of journalism ethics vs the fate of #Dembidollo uni students.

Protection of sources is one of the most important pillars of journalism.Without it, our line of duty is extremely vulnerable to threats & intimidation especially in countries like Ethiopia. 1/6
Of all the painful journey Ethio media had to go through & continued to endure,so far I am not aware of this sacred practice of protection of sources coming under state sanctioned threat whereby jurnos are forced to hand over the identity of their sources. Not to my knowledge. 2/6
However, protection of sources is not absolute, & can, under extreme cases, be restricted by law enforcement agencies, which means journalists are obliged to identify sources or their contacts. Such extreme cases include cases of national vital interests & safety of civilians.3/6

From the spectacular indifference, incoherence & continueed negligence of the #Amhara region officials with regard to the fate of #DembiDollo university students,to PM Abiy's office rush to speak of the alleged rescue operation, which couldn't be backed up with any evidence..1/3
From the shameful abdication of responsibility of the intelligence, federal army & police (and their regional auxiliaries),to the indifference of federal & academic institutions, what we are staring at is a pure act of political expediency, a collective silence of convenience.2/3
What we are staring at isn't a "prosperous" birth of a political alliance but an alliance of dishonesty at the expense of the safety & security of civilians; the pain & agony of victims & their parents. This will go down history books as a violent birth of a political party 3/3.
