Post-league meeting, Danger Muffin is now presenting on sandwiches.

Riveting stuff at @BayAreaDerby. #derbytwitter
My infrastructural studies brain is furious at this talk.
.@renee_lung and I are trying to decolonialize the Kramer unified sandwich theory

"The whitewashing of roller skating's online revival" by @jessjoho is very good (h/t @BrownJefe). A few thoughts: 1/4

#derbytwitter
She lays out how the segregation of Black and white skating communities has been transmuted into the online -- Tik-Tok's selection algorithms further deepening the separation between the two and Planet Roller Skate's censoring of Black skaters 2/4
This graf, on how white-owned rinks in LA ban a certain kind of wheel especially caught my eye. It reminded me a lot about the clothing bans at Fast Forward, a white-owned rink in the middle of the Allied Drive neighborhood in Madison, which was predominantly Black and brown. 3/4 Image

Concussion discussions are on the timeline today and it was a focus for my team this year so I am going to go through the steps and changes we made and hopefully others can chime in with things they've found helpful. #DerbyTwitter
I track lost time injuries with our travel program and going into this year we identified mixed level interleague scrims and expo bouts as higher risk events. A periodization plan that included limiting these games in terms of scheduling and skating was part of my Coach vote.
A wide disparity in skill level and experience, a lack of coaching, and a relaxed officiating atmosphere can all lead to higher risk of injury. Tracking, identifying and eliminating those games was part of our prevention strategy this year.

Hey #DerbyTwitter, a thread about pronouns.
Whenever we're asking people for theirs, we're getting some replies that are less than ideal from cis folks.
Look, I get that your pronouns have never been in question. But for many people in our community - and the world at large - they are, and fun silly answers show your privilege.

Ok, so, my musings. I don't believe that leagues really understand what logistics their head officials/equivalents have to do in order to staff games or scrims #derbytwitter
Bearing in mind that often leagues cancel or change plans to suit the skaters, but officials are usually last to know about this. And they're normally a disparate group, not an actual team of people, like the skaters #derbytwitter
So, you're told about a game/scrim etc, (hopefully with more than a months notice) and you ask in your league for anyone who wants to officiate. You have maybe a handful of rookies/injured skaters who could NSO #derbytwitter
