Ghana is set to grant citizenship to 200 African Americans as part of celebrations of the 'Year of Return 2019’.

The occasion would mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first African slaves in America

The government of Ghana launched the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” as part of efforts to encourage African Americans and the black diaspora to return to the homeland where their ancestors were kidnapped and sold into slavery many centuries ago.

In 2000, Ghana passed the “Right of Abode” law making it the first African country to officially open its doors to people of African descent from all over the world.

The law allows any person of African descent to apply and be granted the right to stay in Ghana indefinitely.

Today is #WorldKidneyDay, so here is a thread about living on #dialysis & #OrganDonation. My name is Belinda Otas. I’m #African. I’m #Nigerian. I'm #Benin. I’m #British & I’m #Black. Beyond the nationalities or passports with my name, I also believe in our shared humanity.
I was 16, when I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF.) I had no idea what was happening to me because at the time, it made no sense. However, I remember the pain of that period like noonday. I lived on dialysis until i was 22. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth
It took over my teenage years. I don’t remember having much of a life as a teenager because dialysis was 3x a week & every session was 4hrs. Add the time it takes to recover from being exhausted by the process, my day was pretty much over. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth

What do we think about the rise of this new political entity, called “the civilizational state”? Several #IR works offer guidance regarding the relationship between #civilizations and the liberal international order. A (long!) thread--->
1) The discussion often starts with an understanding of civilizations as culturally distinct units. For Huntington, a consensus-based liberal order is not durable because civilizational differences are incommensurable.

2) But as Huntington’s critics have shown, civilizations have porous borders and are internally pluralistic. Katzenstein’s trilogy, for example, shows that there are more trans-civilizational engagements and inter-civilizational interactions.

As promised, here's a short introduction to #BlackFinnishHistory
First, keep in mind that at present there is no book or course on Black Finnish (or Afro-Finnish/African Finnish) history for me to refer to. There's info out there but it hasn't been pieced together into a clear timeline.
While still part of Sweden, Finns were as engaged in colonialism as their peers during the 1600s and were present at col.settlements in the US, trade posts in West Africa. In all likelihood, Finns were involved in slavery and thus with slaves, but there are no clear records.
