Over the last few days, I have seen posts advocating @RoySocChem, @AmerChemSociety to #boycott Russian scientists at conferences/from publications. Some Universities in Europe have already done so. I am very, very strongly against the boycott!
Here is a🧵with my reasons 1/11
For disclosure - I am Russian, born in the USSR, with my family currently in Russia and in Ukraine
I have been living in the UK alone since 16yo, when I went to @DurhamChemistry for my UG
*I will use male pronouns for leaders due to the gender bias in power 2/11
I'm sad to receive full face criticism for the actions of the 'president' neither I nor my family/friends ever voted. I know he still totals 146% & an absolute 'support'. I was lucky to have been in a position to 'vote with my legs out of Russia', but most people could not! 3/11

Absolutely. I study moments of mass mobilization. previous protests in Belarus were very different. This is indeed a critical juncture for protest mobilization in the country. 1) the protests are physicallly bigger (hard to see because they r dispersed geographically) but bigger
2) yes the state has acted far more quickly and violently ... but this actually mobilizing ... that’s the thing with repression it doesn’t allways work the way you want it to #dictators ... mothers, elderly, friends, crying outside of prisons is heart rentching and mobilizing!
3) we see the element I allways look for in large protests - to see if they will go from large protests to mass mobilization- what I call a “cross cleavage coalition” aka awakening of a larger “protestorate”. (See my book on ukraine and argentina and my article in @JoDemocracy)

Has little challenge as do corrupt politicians as long as #FreeSpeech is suppressed. The #NumberOne #HumanRight that made #AmericaGreat. The principle upon which the internet was made to acquire knowledge and exchange ideas. Let’s reflect on that #MothersDay
With out #SydneyPowell speaking up for #GeneralFlynn America wouldn’t know the general Is an American Hero set up by those involved in #ObamaGate. They would still think @POTUS was a Russian Agent when it was @HillaryClinton @DNC aid for and organized #Spygate

Now that there has been ample time to digest at least the outlines of the #MuellerReport, there are two main takeaways: 1/ The Russian government seriously and systematically attempted to influence the outcome of the 2016 election and are prepared to do so again. (1/5)
2/ But for the refusal of some key staff to carry out his orders, #PresidentTrump would have thrown this country into a #ConstitutionalCrisis. The 1st should be extremely concerning as it seems no effort is being made to prevent interference in 2020. The protection of our (2/5)
electoral system should be one of the first responsibilities of government. To ignore this threat is reckless in the extreme. The 2nd shows us a #President with little or no respect for the law, someone who looks at the office as his personal fiefdom. That is the stuff of (3/5)

Europe's border is not where you think it is. Here's why:
#humanrights #migration #refugees #IDS2018 see @visionscarto #map @CDB_77
1/5. From 2010 to 2014, the number of refugees and migrants coming to Europe increased from 60,000 to 280,000. The EU decided to crack down on migration by paying other countries to deal with migration for them.
2/5. The EU started making financial agreements with African strongmen and #dictators to ramp up #border security, technical aid and data collection. As a result, other countries are actually controlling the EU border, moving the border further south to #NorthAfrica.
