The nurse has to live with it. "The restrainers"...
It's sickening people do it for a living.
I think it might have been a mercy killing.
We'll never know.
We need statistics on. Death by restraint
@GovAndyBeshear
Brother survived restrained at the asylum but died by restraints I'm a medical setting.
He went in for knee surgery. Restraints 4 Tube feeding, left him alone, he choked on his own vomit. He was coming home the next day. You don't expect it @
Children's Hospital Cincinnati
It always bothered me about those left behind at the institutions.

They have no voice.

Only by the grace of God was brother able to cone back home.
I hate institutions.
I hate the state of Kentucky for killing my sister, destroying our family instead of providing services.

What does disability offer as a category of historical analysis? Why does #DisHist matter?
Here is an eg:
Born in Sardinia, Antonio Gramsci (1891โ€“
1937) lived with physical disability, possibly due to Pott's disease (image not of him).../ The image shows a black and white photograph of the back of a young boy with deformities of the spine and neck.
2.
His mother held to the idea that he was disabled after a fall down a flight of stairs which she blamed on a servant. The young Gramsci lived with chronic pain, and his condition may have impacted his growth as well.
#DisHist #DisabilityHistory #histmed The image shows a black and white photograph of a middle aged woman with dark hair wearing a dark dress, holding a toddler with dark curly hair and a white dress. The photo appears to be from the early 20th century.
3.
Gramsci's own writings describe how he was called a gobbo (hunchback) by those around him & described how his condition made him feel like an "intruder" in his family.../

In honour of #WomenHistoryMonth, we'll be showcasing the work of famous disabled women forgotten by history. #DisabilityHistory
On Day 1, meet Ragnhild Kata (1873 - 1947), the woman who helped Helen Keller learn how to speak.

Ragnhild was the first deafblind person in Norway to receive proper schooling, eventually learning to speak and inspiring Helen Keller to do the same #DisabilityHistory
2: Annette Kellermann (1886-1975) wore leg braces & swam to build muscle.

She set multiple records in 1902 races, was the first woman to appear naked in a Hollywood film (A Daughter of the Gods, 1916) & launched a swimwear range after being told to 'cover up'. #WomenHistoryMonth
