Das klingt vielleicht erstmal seltsam, weil viele Menschen eigentlich eine relativ konkrete Vorstellung davon haben, was eine Behinderung ist und wie eine behinderte Person aussieht. Indirekt enthalten ist hier also: Behinderung sieht man den Leuten an - Spoiler: nein 2/
Das Ganze ist aber alles andere als einfach. Behinderungen sind vielfältig. Sie sind angeboren oder erworben. Oft sind sie eben nicht auf den ersten Blick erkennbar (quasi unsichtbar). Menschen jeden Alters können behindert sein. Manche Menschen haben mehrere Behinderungen 3/

I'm so dissapointed in the doc who has been my best PCP for years #NEISvoid #DisabilityTwitter #EhlersDanlosSyndrome I have cci and it got significantly worse the last 2 months. I've tried to deal with it myself, but its been a major issue for pain, mobility & neuro symptoms #eds
that nothing helps. we changed from a pain patch to an injection because it give me more relief, but my symptoms persist & cause serious limitations i didn't have before. my PCP told me I had to do PT to get scans. I said okay, because this has happened before. I need 6 weeks
to get scans, which is a lot. my 1st pt was terrible [and I posted about it earlier] and my next pt is somebody I've never been with, so idk if they know eds. the only PT who I know, like, and who knows eds is booked through December. I called insurance to ask about getting scans

My eyes move involuntarily, each one swinging to its own music. They’ve danced this way for as long as I can remember. I can’t see it myself, but the jeering kids let me know. The adults nudging me to wear sunglasses let me know. And trolls certainly let me know. Thread 1/5
Our society criminalizes #disability. Countless books & films allege eyes reveal a person’s soul, then deliberately give the evil characters abnormal eyes. Not all of them, of course, but enough to influence the public’s perception of eyes like mine. #Ableism 2/5
The #blind community has many stories of police glancing at our eyes & immediately assuming intoxication, illegal substance use, or criminal intent. Those of us who are blind and Black face the dual forces of #ableism and racism. #BlackDisabledLivesMatter 3/5
Wtf?! This goes against the tenets of #disability studies, by critiquing #neurodiversity & making claims like “disability is not a ‘gift’ that anyone w/ an acute moral sense would give, celebrate, or fail to try to change in the direction of greater ability & less disability.”

Maybe I’m extra salty this AM but I feel compelled to respond. Over HALF of the citations in this article are back to articles published by the lead author. How is that even permissible? How is this original research or thinking & not just inflammatory self-promotional BS?
Real question. We know what we DON'T want to see from #autistic characters in film & tv (hold the puppet jokes pls), but what DO we want to see? Who do you want to watch and what's happening to them?
