Like an episode of Game of Thrones (with notably more incest) this #DowningStParty scandal has engulfed the @Conservatives - rightly so. But what of the institutions & players?
How have we come to a point where it is the Public that must force the truth & gather the evidence? @BorisJohnson's plausible deniability is all but out the window at this point. Everyone he leans on appears to willingly sign their own career ending/reputation destroying role.
Lord Geidt, Simon Case & even @SueGrayCO are all pieces in this game. The board is set, the pieces are moving - except now, thanks to the work of @PippaCrerar @PaulBrandITV & @GoodLawProject we have a good idea of the Governments play. This surely makes it impossible for these

Exactly what he did on 8 December when he said "I understand and share the anger" over the #DowningStParty - he got away with it that time.

Is the British public really going to fall for it twice?

Johnson can't apologise tomorrow because that would be an admission he was an accessory in an unlawful act, in which case he would have to resign (surely)

#OneRuleForThem

#C4News
The Times and Daily Mail are urging Johnson to apologise for breaking the law, claiming that will allow him to carry on as PM

Can you imagine what they would be saying if it was Starmer who had held the parties?

Tory ministers are keeping to the "It was right that the PM moved swiftly to set up the independent inquiry led by Sue Gray" bullshit.

I've yet to hear any journo ask why Johnson needs an inquiry to tell him if he attended parties in his own fkn house & garden

1/ The tide turning against #johnson over #DowningStParty is odd. Yes, it was terrible behaviour but we've come to expect it & his gov. has done much worse without the same scrutiny. So, why now and why over this? #DowningStreetChristmasParty
2/ #Johnson the populist was a useful means of defeating #JeremyCorbyn in 2019. A more obviously "respectable" establishment figure would have struggled* (*see Theresa May). But as Ken Clarke explained in 2019, Johnson is not the establishment's ideal PM telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/โ€ฆ
3/ This isn't because he is unusually venal & corrupt* (*see, for example, most British Govs.) but he doesn't participate in the parliamentary theatre in the correct way: a way that would disguise the fundamental corruption of Britain's ruling class...
