The Sahel strip is south of the Sahara. These are lands that are being desertified (turning into desert) for different reasons. Climate change, civil wars, migrations, exploitation of resources, deforestation and burning of slash to enable areas for livestock.
Where at this time of year arrives and the wind begins to lift all that particulate, takes it to the atmosphere and reaches in several days (5 to 6 days) to the Caribbean areas.
