Hello again. It's Friday 12 May + Day 443 of the #UkraineRussiaWar

I'm back again. Another daily thread for all the news that matters in one place.

Two big developments y'day - #Ukraine's counter offensive prep + long range weapons arrive! Catch up here:
First a strange tale from the far east of #Russia where a private helicopter cut through power lines during a "hard landing"

The Mi-2's landing cut off power to the Transneft station in Primorsky Krai.
It's so remote it took 2 days to find the chopper & the pilot's disappeared! ImageImageImageImage
A big increase in #Russia's manpower losses in the last 24 hours. Still a lot of equipment being hit by #Ukraine too.

As usual, here's a link to the start of yesterday's thread as I know many like to catch up on what they missed.

Tuesday ended with a bang in #Russia as a drone hit an army registration office.
Also attacks in #Kherson + #Zaporizhzhia and much more:

Very disturbing article here showing the extent of #Russia's spying on pretty much all of us.

Seems pretty much all embassies are just used as centres of espionage.

Wednesday was remarkable.

From pathetic Putin's ramblings/partial mobilisation, to the street protests in #Russia, to the prisoner swap deal which saw all 5 Britons released, ending with Zelenskyy's focused and powerful, history-making speech at the #UN

Last night there were big queues at #Russia's southern border with #Georgia.

Presumably men trying to flee before they receive the dreaded call-up to fight in #Ukraine.

Yesterday there were reportedly long queues at the Finnish border and flight tickets selling out.

There was a large #fire in #Russia yesterday that may have been more than just another industrial accident. The fire was in #Dzerzhinsk, a city in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 230 miles (370 km) east of Moscow. A 🧵. 1/
The fire in Dzerzhinsk, Russia occurred in an old industrial park outside the city center. It started when a railway tank car exploded, which set other nearby railcars on fire as well. The tanks contained either solvents, fuel, or lubricants, depending on reports. 2/
Eventually the fire covered an area of about 2000 square meters (0.5 acres). That's not a particularly big area, but the fire was strong and generated a lot of smoke. Almost 100 firefighters with 29 pieces of fire equipment were called in to put out the blaze. 3/

Unlike the other incidents this has no military connection. It might be "just a fire". I will maybe delete this post.
