@Mike_Page is possibly the only person I know who'll sympathise with me, but anyway ... it's very frustrating that @ESCoP_news and @Psychonomic_Soc have chosen Tenerife as the venue for their joint meeting next year. #GlobalWarming
I'm sure #Tenerife is a lovely place to visit, but it costs half a tonne of carbon to get there from the UK. For those travelling from the west coast of the US it'll be 1.4 tonnes. The meeting will have thousands of attendees, 99% of whom will fly to get there.
Why must our professional societies create career/carbon dilemmas? Why do conference organisers (scientists) continue to ignore the science about the most urgent problem for the planet and its population? Why don't psychologists think about their role in the choice architecture?
