As already happens with non-EU nationals, due to the government's failure to extend EU citizens face risk of becoming undocumented virtually overnight. We see it time and again where people who have lived in UK perfectly legally become undocumented due to failures in system. 1/
Once undocumented it is incredibly hard for people to regain legal status. With even charities used as immigration enforcement they are denied access to support, which only increases their vulnerability and risk of the exploitation. 2/
Without an immediate extension to the #EUSettlementScheme the same thing happening to non-EU migrants now will happen to thousands of EU citizens. Jobs, homes, family life, everything thrown into jeopardy by a system which the Home Office claims to be "compassionate". 3/

Dear EU Citizens living in the UK.

TODAY is the Deadline to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme!
Please do it!!
Listen to how little of a crap these Tories will give if your life is even more destabilised by this.

My mom got a UK driving licence a few years after she moved to the UK in the late 1970s. She’s now trying to renew it. @DVLAgovuk wants her to send her passport and proof of her immigration status but will not guarantee safe return of original documents. #hostileenvironment 1/ 🧵
She needs to swap old licence for a photo licence but it’s unclear why immigration status is relevant to licence renewal.@DVLAgovuk ‘s website makes the process sound simple for GB residents but in fact this is not true if you don’t have a British passport. #hostileenvironment 2/
One major issue is that many non-British citizens are invisible in UK systems because they’re not on the electoral roll. Every year when she tries to renew her car tax @DVLAgovuk refuses to believe that she has lived in her house for 30 years. #hostileenvironment 3/

What a fun Sunday evening trying/failing to apply to remain in the country I've lived in since Sept 2012 🙃#EUSettlementScheme

It started well. I have an Android phone!

Not the right kind of Android phones though, so had to borrow another one...
Then, borrowed phone which had worked wonders for my husband’s application refuses to read my passport’s chip.

This means I will have to send my passport to the Home Office, which is never a fun thing to do (thankfully, as many EU citizens I have a second form of ID). 🙃🙃
All clear? If only. Not enough evidence for my residence for 2013, 2014, 2015, only offered pre-settled status...

All years for which I have P60s – but was earning next to nothing (teaching 10-15 hours a year during PhD). So… additional evidence needed for full settled status.
