#EU_Enlargement: The EU is offering support to the new candidate states like Moldova. However, it is curious how the information about the support is communicated. Here are some short remarks:⤵️
1) The lowering of the roaming tariffs is a right step, but this is a spillover effect from the recent decision adopted for the Western Balkans. In other words, the measure is not exceptional and it can be replicated to other⤵️
small countries in the Wider Europe (not to Ukraine for now); 2) The EU speaks about increasing the amount of financial aid. However, it has already transferred or pledged more than 1 billion euro last year. So, out of 1.6 billion euros mentioned today 1.2 billion euros⤵️

#EU_Enlargement: Ukraine is going to reform the entire law enforcement system as part of the EU accession process: 1) Zelensky signed the strategy to reform the state security sector until 2027; 2) This is in line with the 7 EU requirements for the accession dialogue;⤵️
3) both the current and the future EU ambassador to Ukraine stressed that this strategy helps to start accession negotiations; 4) The effects of the strategy signed by Zelensky will be fully visible in 4 years and the Russian aggression creates additional uncertainties; ⤵️
However, the EU is accepting the long-term strategies adopted by the EU as a sign of progress showing an extremely favorable stance towards opening accession negotiations as soon as possible by 2024.

#EU_Enlargement: The EU published the 5th report on the functioning of the EU visa-free regime. Some highlights:⤵️
1) Albania (pop. 2.8 million): Asylum applications - increased by 63% (in total - 11,300); Irregular border crossing - decreased by 19% (1,160 cases); Irregular staying – increased by 21% (37,305 cases); Refusals – rose by 39% (18,565); Return decisions – fell by 5% (22,025).⤵️
2) BiH (pop. 3.2 million): Asylum applications - increased by 78% (2,695); Irregular border crossing - decreased by 42% (17 cases); Irregular staying in the EU – increased by 17% (4,200 cases); Refusals – decreased by 39% (4,995); Return decisions – fell by 1% (2,740).⤵️
