Safe Schools Alliance support good quality inclusive #RSE & #PSHE for all children. This must be biologically accurate, #safeguarding compliant & correctly represent U.K. law. The materials we have seen from many providers do not do this.
It is the responsibility of each individual school to ensure the suitability of any resources that they use with pupils. They must also comprehensively consult with parents. We will be releasing more guidance shortly on which organisations do not comply with new guidelines.
Today, I'm celebrating new laws going into effect in #Virginia. So many people worked hard for YEARS - organizing, educating, advocating, messaging and winning elections for these changes. There are too many to list but here are a *few* of my favorite things (a thread):
✅ Expanded access to voting - no excuse absentee so anyone can vote by mail if they want to, 45-day in-person voting, repealing strict photo ID, AVR and same-day voter registration, making Election Day a state holiday and many more... #VotingRights
✅ Made Virginia a better place for immigrants - allowing everyone to lawfully drive regardless of status, in-state tuition, Office of New Americans, prohibiting law enforcement from asking immigration status of witnesses and victims of crime... #heretostay
The lockdown of schools as a result of the #pandemic has denied students access to education especially the girl child in public schools, urban areas and IDP camps who cannot afford or have access to online classes.

Ooh baby let’s break some of this down. What affirmative action and diversity & inclusion programs (flawed as some were/are) reveal is the lie of American #meritocracy & #bootstrapism.
Affirmative action & diversity programs have repeatedly sought out women, people of color & increasingly queer & disabled people for opportunities for which they are qualified. These programs consider experiences of oppression an important perspective these folks bring.
Further, when these programs occur in early education settings smart, creative & otherwise talented marginalized kids get to have their interests & skills nurtured in ways their families may not be able to provide either financially or bc of lack of awareness of such programs.
