Every day, families like Adrian’s* are torn apart. We do everything we can to reunite families. Help us bring families back together by getting involved today.

11 months ago, Adrian* (8) and his father were forced to remain in Mexico while his pregnant mother was allowed to cross the border. Adrian’s father worried. Not only was their family cruelly separated, his life and his son’s were in danger.
After 10 months trapped in Mexico, the situation grew worse, and Adrian’s father feared for his son’s safety. He did what he could to protect his son: He made the heartbreaking decision to send Adrian across the border alone.

As we type this, all six of our clients are either on a plane on their way to their children or they’ve already landed and have them in their arms. #reunifyfamilies #endfamilyseparation
Here they are again. All fathers forcibly separated from their children + deported. Some were coerced into signing deportation papers in languages they didn’t understand, others were straight up lied to. They haven’t seen their children in nearly 2 years. Today, that changes. Image
A heartfelt x 1,000 thank you to @GlennonDoyle @togetherrising + their community of love warriors who raised $175k+ in 48 hrs to get these parents home + provide for urgent needs.
And they continue to fundraise! 🙏🏽💕

This Nativity scene at Claremont United Methodist Church was posted to Facebook

It depicts Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus separated and put in their own cages, a reference to the families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Inside the church, the family is shown as reunited.
Senior minister Karen Clark Ristine shared the image on Facebook with the message hoping that everyone in the United States could see the photo and read the story for Christmas.

In a time in our country when refugee families seek asylum at our borders
and are unwillingly separated from one another, we consider the most well-known refugee family in the world. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, the Holy Family. Shortly after the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary were forced to flee with their young son from Nazareth to Egypt to escape King

So with all the crazy scary shit that has been taking place in our country I have been finding myself having feelings and emotions that I have not felt since the first few months after September 11th happened.

Only this time it’s our government that is either committing these horrible inhuman actions and or fanning the flames of the fires that are prompting people to commit these crimes. Quite frankly that is far scarier to me.

I am genuinely scared right now, even of people I have known for almost my whole life. I have heard words come out of people’s mouths in the last few days/weeks that have left me speechless, shocked, mortified, and terrified.

Family Separation Hearing Thread⤵️
We’re here today in the first (!) oversight hearing regarding the Administration’s cruel, inhumane, and unlawful #FamilySeparation policy. Live-Tweets in the thread below. So far there is universal bipartisan agreement: #FamiliesBelongTogether
Today’s hearing is focused on how @HHSGov carried out its role to care for and ensure the safety of immigrant children. Neither DOJ nor DHS, who reportedly spawned the Administration’s #FamilySeparation policy, is represented here today.
Government Witnesses rise to be sworn in. This this the first time anyone in the federal government has testified in Congress under oath regarding #FamilySeparation

This is Byron. He was separated as a result of the zero tolerance policy and has remained in detention for 7 months. He deserves a warm, loving home in which to await his case but isn't allowed. Here is our family's story: @RAICESTEXAS
We have been trying to keep things quiet while we go through this process because it is deeply personal and confusing to navigate, But our ultimate goal was to get Byron out of detention and into our home by Xmas. We have a power of attorney from his parents to care for him.
Byron is a sweet 9-year-old boy who walked over 1,600 miles from Guatemala to escape the violence and direct threats from gangs in his town. Last year, his dad was attacked by these gangs and left for dead.

Putting this out there into the #EndFamilySeparation universe: @MarleeDeck and I are trying to reunite two families today. Not tomorrow. Today. Do I know anyone willing to use frequent flier miles to buy tickets for a mom to fly from Nashville (BNA) to NYC & back? With a +1 home.
Appreciate you folks.

Heartfelt apologies for the disappointment felt by my 1000s of new MAGA followers who read the thread I wrote about my meeting with Pres. Obama that’s bounced around 19M times (literally). But maybe you’ll be interested in what @AlexNowrasteh and @mkolken have to say. #FF
It has been amazing to watch a couple thousand people tweet some version of “where was your outrage when Obama did it?!” at liberals and fake news outlets, while simultaneously showing zero outrage now, and doing nothing to stop it. If that’s the takeaway, idk, Man. IDK.
There used to be three or four main idealogical tent poles to conservatism and the Republican Party: (1) libertarianism/limited government “less government = more freedom; (2) “Moral Majority”/WWJD/“values voters” (3) Fiscal conservatives (4) strong national defense. Not anymore.

🚧 1.Let's take a little trip down memory lane @NancyPelosi @SenSchumer @SenGillibrand because it appears as though you may have a memory problem. In 2014 there were children in cages, 80% of which weren't even receiving adequate food and water #AbolishICE #WomenDisobey
2. 2014 Brian Williams reported on 52k children cramped into small facilities and while "taking children from Mothers" is never said listen closely when they say ADULTS are deported, kids stay? @NBCNews knows this and it was @RepMcCaul (R) that was worried #KeepFamiliesTogether
3. The @ACLU wrote to the Obama Admin in 2014 complaining children, including infants were starved, kept in "freezers" and sexually abused they included 116 confessions from children. #KeepFamiliesTogether…

Pres. Trump’s executive order still plans to criminalize families — including children. It’s not enough to #EndFamilySeparation or #KeepFamiliesTogehter. We need to #EndFamilyDetention. You can help us fight back.
We’re fighting back on the legal front. Our #SoutheastImmigrantFreedomInitiative provides pro bono legal representation to immigrants detained in the Southeast. You can volunteer.
We’re fighting back by showing up and speaking out. We are rallying for immigrants’ rights here in Montgomery, Alabama — the state where AG Jeff Sessions began his career.…

Let’s be clear about what this Executive Order does: Instead of imprisoning children in separate internment camps away from their parents, this administration will now imprison children in the same internment camps as their parents.
The Executive Order @realDonaldTrump just signed does nothing to end the “zero-tolerance policy” that automatically criminalizes any and all immigrants who cross the border without legal papers, including those seeking asylum.

It does nothing to end the imprisonment of children.
Children locked in “tender age” prison camps will still be locked in camps. Family detention camps.

1) I.... actually really disagree with this article. The crux of the article's argument is that Godwin's Law was being used as a tool to suppress speech and free thought.
2) The initial logic pans out. It stated that there were situations occurring, such as Planned Parenthood's vivisection of fetuses and selling off portions of them, that were barbaric and deserved comparison to Mengele, the Nazi scientist known for cruel experiments on children
3) However, even as the author of the article briefly covers that Godwin initially proposed the law to prevent lazy arguments and rigid thinking like calling everyone who disagreed with you a Nazi, the author then tosses that claim aside

Thread: How did we get here?
In 2015, I shook President Obama’s hand, thanked him for DACA, and asked him to reverse course & close the for-profit baby jails (also known as “family detention centers”) he opened in Dilley & Karnes City, Texas. What he said shook me to my core 1/
2/ Specifically, I told him, “It’s wrong. And it’s going to be a stain on your legacy.” He stopped moving on to the next person in the rope line and looked back at me. I’d gotten his attention. He turned back, looked at me and “Are you an immigration lawyer?” “Yes”
3/ Just days before, President Obama’s senior immigration policy advisor @cecmunoz had received a chilly welcome during her keynote address to the @AILANational annual conference attendees in National Harbor. She was greeted with silent protest & signs saying #EndFamilyDetention

African American Jews whose ancestors were enslaved, torn from their mothers’ arms and sold, know the trauma of violent family separation and dehumanization.

Jews descended from holocaust survivors know the trauma of families torn apart by white nationalist and antisemitic regimes.

Mizrahi Jews know the painful legacy of babies kidnapped by the state, never to be seen again, never to receive recognition or accountability of who and what was stolen from them.

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether

the detention of immigrant kids & families isn't all new, but thanks to @chrislhayes and others, it's finally getting the mainstream attention and outrage it deserves. many have asked what they can do to help - a few ideas. #EndFamilySeparation #KeepFamiliesTogether 1/
first: money! there are fantastic, smart, hardworking attorneys in the trenches doing this grueling work every day. give to them. a few suggestions in the thread to follow. (there are many people doing this vital work - not an exhaustive list.) 2/
has a bond fund to help parents reunite with their children. they're also raising $$ to provide lawyers to unaccompanied kids facing deportation - that's right, if a toddler can't pay for a lawyer, she's on her own. that's where @RAICESTEXAS comes in. 3/

Want to know #WhereAreTheChildren ? Here’s what happens when a family seeks asylum at the US border (Thread)
First, it’s important to know that it’s LEGAL to seek asylum at a Port of Entry. CBP is obligated to accept refugee families, but we’ve recorded hundreds of instances of unlawful turn-aways. Families lucky enough to be processed face a horrific system designed to tear them apart
If minor children are traveling with both parents, Dad is almost always detained separately. That means his asylum case proceeds apart from that of his family. We’ve seen many cases of dads deported while his wife and kids remain in the US #EndFamilySeparation
