Part of the energy revisions reflect changes to U.S. population growth (which has been revised down 6% since the 2018 - the first year with forecasts out to 2050). By 2050, U.S. population is expected now at 370 mln vs. 395 mln people previously.

Point 1: We provided bill estimates under multiple price scenarios. Treating the #EnergyPriceGuarantee as the "price" I find problematic. The EPG implies a #EnergySubsidy benefitting mostly the well off that we all need to fund through #austerity and/or higher #taxation. So this
does not represent the full economic cost. It also ignores carbon prices which we all need should be MUCH higher. Using estimates based on the Oct 2022 Ofgem price cap ~ £3500 per year which is inline with predictions for most of 2023 (see forecasts from @CornwallInsight).
Gas standing charges are still going up (now around £100 per year), but if we want to save energy, we should abolish them. People are switching away from gas and as a result, we're using MORE gas, and SLOWING heat pump installations.

When someone replaces a boiler with a heat pump, what's left, is often a gas hob. At current prices (and despite high gas unit prices), the standing charge works out at 80-90% of the bill.
So what people do is fit an induction and hob remove the meter.

This means they actually spend MORE on the electricity used than on the gas used (Good. Electricity is higher carbon emissions for heating), and produce more in carbon emissions because each incremental unit of electricity is 100% generated by either gas or goal.

Sensing that what will be a genuinely welcome announcement today on much needed support to cover soaring energy bills, will be tainted by supply-side ideas to placate the climate-sceptic right of her party.

If measures to increase fossil fuel extraction are greater than those needed to increase renewables/nuclear and reduce demand (INSULATION) then this will be an opportunity missed, and could make the £££bn support package even more expensive to fund.
