About the #azbudget. I want you to harness what you are feeling about the budget and what you call @GovernorHobbs "abdication" of her pledge to cap #ESA and funnel that into action.

She does not have the votes in the House or Senate to limit ESAs.
Do you think Gov Hobbs wants to continue this wasteful program that sucks the lifeblood out of our public schools?

Ok, then we need to flip the leg. Period. There is no higher calling in Arizona then flipping the leg.

That starts now. We need to start recruiting candidates.
If you are upset & want to run, you need to visit your local Legislative District meeting introduce yourself and talk to the appropriate person. If they are freezing you out get in touch with me & I will remove that roadblock.

LDs need to start having single-shot conversations

#ArtemisII @NASAArtemis

I've recently renewed an observing campaign on #TIANWEN1. The orbit hasn't changed so an aerobrake test claimed for late 2022 has not occurred yet. In preparation for observing an aerobraking manoeuvre I thought it would be interesting to study past missions that did one. 🧵⬇️ By NASA/JPL/Corby Waste - https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/multi
First a bit a reference of why we believe #TIANWEN1 will conduct an aerobraking test. This all relates to the #TIANWEN3 Mars sample return mission.
spacenews.com/china-aims-to-…
Aerobraking is used to allow a spacecraft to lower its apopasis by using a planet's atmosphere to decelerate the spacecraft as it passes through the tenuous upper atmosphere of the planet at periapsis at just the right altitude as not to cook the spacecraft and max. drag. ⬇️

The massive spending bill Congress is pushing though, hides their pet amendments or "riders". This is what Sen. Tester D-MT did 2 wolves in the N. Rockies. He slipped a wolf delisting rider into a budget bill just like this one, dooming wolves to endless suffering and cruelty.
Sen. Tester D-MT delisted wolves 4 votes. He was in a tough re-election bid. They both wanted 2 score points with the hunting & ranching crowd since wolves had been placed back on the ##ESA after being delisted by the Obama Admin. in 2009. He betrayed his base 2 get re-elected.
And Tester is still a Senator in a very red state because he sucks up to the ranchers and hunters. Nice huh.

Earlier this week, a federal court in California threw out several #EndangeredSpeciesAct (ESA) rules adopted during the Trump administration in a blow to both conservation and the rule of law. 🧵
One of the rules required regulations to be tailored to the needs of threatened species, which face relatively remote risks, rather than subjecting them to the across-the-board regulations Congress designed for endangered species.
Under this rule, regulatory restrictions relax as species recover which encourages private landowners to conserve habitat and rewards successful recovery efforts.

While the deadline for this year's opportunity to apply for #ESA student sponsorship for the #IAC passed a week ago, I'd like to share my overwhelmingly positive experience of the program from 2016, so that you can decide to apply next year if possible! ⬇️
I was finishing my MSc. in early 2016 and I was active in space outreach - organizing seminars, writing popular science articles for mags such as @Vesmir1871 (CZ) or @clarkesworld (EN) and trying out space workshops for kids, and I had ideas to put in an abstract for #IAC2016.
I learned about the ESA sponsorship opportunity covering the conference fee, accommodation & travel cost and was excited! I submitted my abstract to the outreach session of IAC and applied for the program, outlining my reasons for wishing to attend + shooting a short video.

A spiral galaxy nicknamed "Eye of the Serpent" is 35 million light-years from #Earth. The Hubble Space Telescope recently snapped a photo of the #galaxy, which is about half the width of the #MilkyWay and has a supermassive black hole at its center.

@NASA @NASAHubble @esa
Its distinct arms, where stars and gas are compressed, create the illusion of an eye — which is why astronomers call it the "Eye of the Serpent."

.@NASA confirms that the dent in #Earth’s protective shield is splitting into two as it gets bigger - by @pabsgill

businessinsider.in/science/space/…
The bigger the anomaly gets the wider its sphere of influence. A weak magnetic field means that the particle radiation from the #Sun gets closer to the #Earth’s surface than otherwise.
In addition to messing with compasses and throwing bird navigation off, this means it can also knock out onboard computers and interfere with satellites on their rounds to collect data.

One of the questions that I was asked at my @esa interview was 'who is your favourite astronaut?' This was both an AWESOME but difficult question. Of course I am biased (as a Brit) but it's definitely between @astro_timpeake and @HelenSharmanUK!

@AstroRickman #ESA
The first British-born astronaut @HelenSharmanUK is also a @sheffielduni graduate (which is where I did my undergrad degree). I had the pleasure of meeting Helen at a cocktail party in Geneva a couple of years ago! Image
And I also had the pleasure of meeting @astro_timpeake (coincidentally also in sheffield).

Tim Peake was the first @esa British astronaut. He spent 6 months aboard the ISS on a mission called Principia.

For @People_Of_Space followers who don't know me! My @pillownaut handle is a reference to spaceflight simulations at Johnson Space Center. In #NASA quarantine, one of the few comforts flight analogs can have during simulations is a comfy pillow, LOL...! #PillownautTale

When humans leave the Earth gravity under which we evolved, we suffer heart enlargement, muscle atrophy, bone de-mineralization, plasma volume drops, vestibular disturbance (loss of balance), & other superfun things that could spell death on Mars. #PillownautTale (Credit NOVA au)
