A row of steel Thames Lighters sunk off the northeast of the Dengie Peninsula to protect the saltmarsh and seawall from erosion. #Essex

Modest beginnings. St Peter-on-the-Wall was founded circa 654 and was built over the ruined gate of the abandoned 3rd-century Roman fort of Othona reusing Roman stones and bricks in its construction. It is literally 'on the wall' of the Roman Fort. #Essex Image
The building was used as barn for a time after the dissolution of the monasteries. The different stone work where a large barn door can be seen on the side. The church originally had an apse and simple buttresses. Image
In 1959, there was a close call when this conjectural Saxon “restoration” was proposed. Thankfully what stands now is much more honest and evocative spab.org.uk/news/edge-esse… Image

St. Peter-on-the-Wall Chapel, at the tip of the Dengie Peninsula, is among the oldest, if not the oldest, intact Christian churches in England said to have been built by the Saxon Bishop Cedd circa 654. Bradwell-on-Sea #Essex Image
There's some debate among historians as to which is the oldest English church with St Martin's, Canterbury built before AD 597 often mentioned as the oldest.

Is it safe to say so much of what we have come to love (and hate) about Ontario will be forever changed on Thursday night?
As a Dad of young children, & teacher, I'm struggling with what a PC majority might mean for school communities, the environment, and our health care system.
I have knocked on doors, made phone calls and talked with friends and neighbours. I am voting with a few on Thursday in order to help get out the vote, but I'm afraid it won't be enough.
At this time, I really think the only chance we have of stopping Ford and his PCs is to swallow our preferred party pride, check our hearts, and vote for the candidate most likely to defeat the PC candidate, riding by riding.

#onpoli #VoteFordOut here are key ridings where you can make a difference by voting strategically to prevent the Doug Ford Conservatives from forming government.
Ajax riding, the strategic vote is Ontario Liberal. Otherwise Ford may win this seat. Don't be fooled by his candidate that was on the school board, they have no interest in public education. NONE. Image
#Brampton East a riding that could MOVE to Doug Ford's PC's if the voters don't support the NDP in this riding. Image

Something demented happened to me today but first a little context.

I come from an upbringing of abuse. For 21 years I suffered it, me and my sisters. So naturally my woke breaking point was when I started noticing a certain type of language aimed at children.
So about 3 years ago I took a deep dive to find out what it was. I came to discover it was critical theories. A kind of umbrella term for an ideology that has many tentacles that applies marxian conflicts theory to just about anything but mostly sex, gender and race.
I read about it for hours a day and watched hours of podcasts. Watched the meltdowns and destruction happening online all the while escaping it in real life. The things I had noticed aimed at children were online too. Until today.

Your Friday @TheWECHU update: Today, there are 65 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex. That's the highest single-day case increase of the second wave in the region. Another LTC home is in outbreak: Chartwell St. Clair Beach in Tecumseh where a resident has tested positive.
The transmission source for a whopping 58 new cases are still under investigation by public health unit staff. Five are close contacts of confirmed cases and two are attributed to community spread.
The seven-day moving average is "hitting a point we have never hit," even in the worst part of the first wave, says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed. The epi-curve is steep, which "means we are doing really badly."

Meanwhile in #France,
"the peak of this second wave is over"

(according to the President in his Adress to the Nation):
Wait... "the peak is over" doesn´t mean "it´s back to normal"!

Confinement will only fall on December 15,
if there´s less than 5.000 new cases a day.
(today it´s ~9.000).

France is disappointed.🙁

Although they certainly can make it happen.
Meanwhile in #Switzerland:
(excess mortality of the second wave is significant)

Good news: fastest decrease in infections happens in the worst hit areas now.

Today, @TheWECHU is reporting 36 new cases of COVID-19. Details: Eighteen are close contacts of confirmed cases, four are attributed to community spread, two are related to travel in the US, and one is a health-care worker. Twelve are still under investigation. #Windsor #Essex
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed is doing a PowerPoint presentation with visuals to show how severe the spread of COVID-19 has become. He usually reserves these presentations for Fridays.
This month, the age groups becoming infected has shifted. Twenty per cent of positive cases so far in November have been kids ages 0 to 19.

As #COVID19 cases are found to spread, #Melbourne (city of ~5 million) tries to contain them by going into #Lockdown.
(The interview features the idea of a dedicated #Quarantine building - that would actually help, I guess)...
"People acting as if the pandemic was over was 'not the answer, it is part of the problem' ".

"The virus had leaked from postcodes already under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of #Melbourne."
(and beyond, it is feared).
Due to #Melbourne's outbreak, neighbouring South Australia is about to completely close it's borders to #Victoria.

(Nearly) no exceptions. And those essential few who are allowed in, will have to wear facemasks the entire time...

Vorpommern-Greifswald district (where rejections of #Gütersloh residents took place, yesterday)
has specific rules:
"Those who return from international risk areas (out of Germany) or whose Corona-Warning App has alerted them, need to report to authorites"
kreis-vg.de Image
In fact, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Corona-ordinance really prohibits entry of people from international risk areas AND german risk areas as well.
It's just not prominently featured on their websites.

(Overlooked that myself, hence deleted earlier tweet)

People from #Gütersloh district may have to scrap all their holiday plans anyway...

An official #Lockdown is just being announced for the entire district.

Protest is taking place outside @Essex_CC ahead of special mtg about future of library services in the county. Mtg starts at 10am.

Protesters oppose any library closures & say they want to turn them into community hubs.
The Special Meeting on the future of library services in #Essex has begun @Essex_CC.

We start with 30mins of public Qs, each person has 3mins to ask a Q.
Ros Scott from #Wivenhoe asked a Q about whether the council has done an equality impact assessment of the impact of library closures on women? She says twice as many women use tier 4 libraries (which are set to close) compared to men.

Astonishing interview with Neil Stock, Leader of @Tendring_DC just now on @BBCEssex re: joint letter from all #Essex councils to @SadiqKhan & London Borough Council Leaders telling them to stop moving problem families from the capital into the county.
Neil Stock tells @DaveMonkEssex that although many parts of #Essex are affluent, there are pockets of severe deprivation, and "we don't need London to dump their problems on us." He adds: "These families have no say - they're being expelled almost"
When @StockNeil is asked how much it's costing the county to deal with this issue, he says "maybe tens of millions". "It's not fair on hard pressed tax payers in Essex that we're having to subsidise London's problems" he adds.

Tonight I'm @UKIP's "Brexit SOS" event in Chelmsford. It's standing room only as the crowd waits for a talk from former @Conservatives MP for Peterborough Stewart Jackson
.@oflynnmep who's hosting the event delivers his assessment of #Essex @Conservatives MPs on Brexit. He praises @JWhittingdale, @JamesDuddridge who he says "put his head above the parapet last week" & @patel4witham who he describes as "passionate about delivering Brexit".
But @oflynnmep is scathing about @Conservatives Party Deputy Leader @JamesCleverly: "I wasn't happy with what he had to say at Tory Party Conference" and Castle Point MP @RebeccaHarrisMP "I thought she was pro Brexit but we haven't heard a peep from her".
