One year ago at 7pm, against a backdrop of intimidation from the usual men's rights mob, our historic rally started in defence of @ALLIANCELGB & @Womans_Place_UK who'd been defamed in

Then @BevJacksonAuth for @ALLIANCELGB

Dear Daniel @DanielFooksArt I do quite agree with you about what Voltaire said, even though it was apparently mis-attributed - it was Beatrice Evelyn Hall that said it... (see @VoteEsther below)
Also I see you support David Millar and others who have been silenced for their views about the state of Israel and the rights of Palestinian people. And of their right to voice their opinions.

I defend those rights #IStandWithDavidMillar
Kiri Tunks @kiritunks is a former joint President of NEU, and one of the founders of @Womans_Place_UK. She was 'uninvited' from speaking about sexism in Education at a @UKLabour Party branch.

@LabWomenDec shared her letter to that branch and others... labourwomensdeclaration.org.uk/news/we-stand-…

* CANCEL CULTURE CONTINUES*

In June my Labour Party LGBT Officer posted a video on a party platform condemning the Party position on GRA reform based on a headline in The Times “Labour stands back from gender debate”.
The officer claimed this put them+the trans community at risk of abuse, assault, deteriorating mental health, suicide and being a 2nd class citizen. There was no consultation about this. I wrote to the Secretary and asked for an urgent, respectful, debate to be held on women’s rights.
I didn’t get a reply but on July 30th a CLP zoom was held to discuss LGBT issues, which considered GRA reform. Several of us called for a speaker from the LWD to be invited. This was finally agreed, speakers invited and set for 10th Sept.
An exec member leaked this to a TRA who

Thank you @LabWomenDec for organising such a brilliant rally of support for WPUK, @ALLIANCELGB and everyone slurred and threatened with expulsion from @UKLabour womansplaceuk.org/2020/03/12/tha… #ExpelMe
We fully support the 4 demands that came out of the #ExpelMe rally- That Labour 1. guarantee the single-sex exemptions as per their manifesto commitment. 2. ensure women members are free to discuss everything which affects them as a sex class, including sex self-identification.
3. That the Labour Party leader candidates and deputy candidates remove their names from the Trans pledge.
4. That the Labour Party and leadership and deputy leader candidates acknowledge publicly that WPUK and LGB Alliance are not hate groups. #ExpelMe

There was something very cult like about the chanting by trans activists which greeted us outside the @LabWomenDec #ExpelMe rally last night. The only chant that didn't involve repeating what the megaphone said was where they shouted "Fuck Off" in answer to Julie Bindel's name
While trans activists assert it is 'triggering' to them for women to talk about periods or our bodies, they apparently think it's fine to turn up to protest outside a women's meeting wearing a balaclava & a flashing penis & filming women while asking for our names & where we live
And while they tell us not to 'misgender' (also known as correctly sex) because it causes distress, apparently they didn't consider that it might cause distress to create the smell of smoke inside a packed meeting hall in the shadow of Grenfell Tower.

A public meeting. 100s of women. And some men. Women met at tube station and escorted by stewards past obnoxious protestors with faces covered, taking photos of attendees and shouting in their faces. Abusive shouting continued throughout. #ExpelMe 1/3
Smoke bombs set off in the shadow of Grenfell, underneath murals remembering the tragedy. Police arrived at 9 to create a safe corridor for women to get safely to the tube.

A disgrace. #ExpelMe 2/3
The meeting went ahead. Fantastic contributions. A huge crowd.

A movement. #ExpelMe 3/3

"This morning Lisa Nandy MP was interviewed by Justin Webb on Radio 4’s Today programme.

We were astonished to hear the comments she made about Woman’s Place UK which we absolutely refute...
"We have decided not to pursue legal action at this stage. We believe the labour movement should try, instead, to resolve differences through respectful debate. We will, however, be monitoring comments made about WPUK & its founders carefully throughout the leadership campaign...

We stand up for the sex-based rights of women and girls. Sex is a protected characteristic in Equality law and it's right that this group (like any other) has advocates who prioritise and campaign for their rights and needs. 2/3

We support the right of trans people to live safely and free from unfair discrimination. But sex and gender identity are not the same and #sexmatters too. Sometimes sex needs to be prioritised in policy making. Existing law allows this. 3/3 Image

Supporters of the Labour Women’s Declaration were appalled to hear @lisanandy on @BBCr4today programme this morning, clearly stating that she wanted those who are concerned about male people being included in female-only spaces to be expelled from the Labour Party.
Women have been subject to harms that are far more tangible than words, quite apart from the verbal abuse and harassment virtually every women has experienced. And yet Nandy refers to @Womans_Place_UK which stands for the rights of women in every arena of life as a hate group.
This appears to be entirely on the basis that they want to retain the single-sex provisions of the Equality Act 2010, which were highlighted as in need of greater understanding and implementation in the 2019 Labour Manifesto.

@RLong_Bailey @Keir_Starmer @lisanandy @EmilyThornberry Labour Women's Declaration wrote to each of you at the launch of your leadership campaigns asking whether you were committed to upholding the Labour 2019 Manifesto pledge on sex based rights #ExpelMe #WomensVoicesMatter
Labour Women's Declaration also asked how each of you, as leader, would ensure women in the party were able to meet, organise & discuss matters of policy change & how any such changes might impact women' sex based rights, without fear of threat/intimidation #SexMatters #ExpelMe
Labour Women's Declaration notes that to date we have not heard back from any of you with regards to our questions on women's sex based rights. We do note that @RLong_Bailey & @lisanandy have been quick to act in signing up to Labour Campaign for Trans Rights. #WomensRightsMatter

Excellent job just now by @selina_todd on BBC politics live bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b…. Calm & clear despite being talked over by @lloyd_rm who put forward the biological nonsense that 'sex is not binary' & the sexist nonsense that being a woman is "how you present yourself"👗💋👠
Twitter tropes being trotted out by an MP. "Do you propose a gene test to check whether everyone has the right chromosomes" 🙄

"i've not seen the detail of the pledge" but it "sounds very sensible to have disciplinary proceedings" for people who wont say transwomen are women
Selina Todd says the the pledge calls women & gay rights orgs @Womans_Place_UK and @AllianceLGB transphobic orgs.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP butts in: "well they are"

Women’s rights should be at the heart of the Labour movement. We firmly reject the allegations that women’s and LGB rights groups advocating for our sex-based rights are transphobic or hateful.

#ExpelMe #SexNotGender
Without an understanding that sexism, homophobia and lesbophobia are inequalities based on sex, the Labour Party cannot work for a fairer society for all.

#ExpelMe #SexNotGender
We recognise that trans people are affected by discrimination in many areas of life, and we condemn this, as we condemn all violence and discrimination against any group.

@AngelaRayner @RLong_Bailey I’ve just rejoined Labour. I’m from a northern working-class background. I’ve worked in specialist services for women subjected to men’s violence violence for 30yrs. I believe women’s sex based rights & protections matter. Do you want me expelled?
@AngelaRayner @RLong_Bailey I'm also proud to be part of @Womans_Place_UK. Here's a speech I gave last month at Holyrood last month on the importance of women only spaces and services for women and girls who've been subjected to men's violence #expelme kareningalasmith.wordpress.com/2020/01/20/the…
