1. I so appreciate this thread by @ToriGlass (#FF). I believe there is value in this #Exvangelical community we’re building as we work and grow through tensions. I hope we can give each other some grace and take a step back to consider the sources of conflicting trauma responses.
2. Of course, we need to actively work not to elevate white feelings over POC as we do so. We white exvies need to be less fragile about being called out. And we need to recognize how the history of colonialism and white supremacism has given rise to different theologies.
3. Since #Exvangelical really began to become a thing, I and others, like @ToriGlass and @cindy_w_brandt and @brchastain, have advocated for the building of bridges between exvies who leave toxic religion for no religion, and exvies who leave for healthy or better religion.

Even more, there exists within a system more than one Belief, and the way these different Beliefs rub and press and pull against each other creates the Culture.
I certainly don't fault those who find the above Belief comforting. Life is a big and scary thing, and looking up to the night sky, we get a glimpse at just how small and insignificant we are.
The night is dark and full of terrors, and it's comforting to know that the Lord of Light that banishes the shadows and shades knows MY name and gives MY life meaning and worth.

All right, my #Exvangelical bbs. I meant to do this a couple of nights ago but life has gotten in my way and it's taken longer than I intended (literally my mantra these days). But I want to talk about stories and community and #ExvangelicalHealing and some thoughts.
When I was still a teenager, in an abusive home that I couldn't even recognize as abusive yet, I came to a conclusion that has stuck with me ever since, and I refer back to it fairly often. See, I didn't know that my parents were abusive, but I DID know I didn't want to be them.
And I had a realization one day - it wasn't enough to know that I did NOT want to be something, to be trying to get AWAY from something. I had to be working TOWARDS something. I think this is true in a lot of situations, and I think it is such an easy place to land.
