In From Here to Equality on pages 43-44 we argue there are salient differences between the experiences of black American descendants of US slavery and recent black immigrants in the US.
We say on p.44 of #FHTE “...ith is misleading to depict as synonymous the experience of ethnic immigrants or immigrants of color and African-Americans taken collectively... “

As far as “ Black Empowerment “ and “Bootstraperism” in the #ADOS communities are concerned academia will also concede to the data that suggest these theories are apart of a concerted effort to disenfranchise #ADOS.

Thread. Someone raised the issue of American billionaires and how they did it. Let's pull back for the big picture.
Fact #1: It helps not to be born Black in America.
Most white billionaires were born to wealthy or at least solidly middle-class families. All 6 Black American billionaires are self-made. They had to be. U.S. federal policy has prevented Black families from accumulating “intergenerational wealth” since our founding.
The 40-acre land grant program Lincoln started for freed people ended when the president was assassinated. Andrew Johnson even forced 40,000 newly free ppl off their land and handed it back to former slaveholders.
