For a state full of Republican politicians who are constantly screaming "Florida's open for business" they sure are doing a crappy job of selling our state to the business community by taking on both tourism and the corporation that put Florida on the map. 1/
What corporation in their right mind would move to Florida when our governor and legislature will cancel them if they don't tow the line? What corporation wants to move its employee base here when the state is banning math books for the sake of artificial culture wars? 2/
We have a US Senator from Florida trying to raise taxes on the middle class. We refuse to divest from Russian investments. We have a massive teacher shortage. We have no separation of powers as the #FLLeg answers to the governor. 3/

Some jaw-dropping passages in @MiamiHerald/@TB_Times reporter @samanthajgross' story explaining why the #FLLeg will do nothing this session to tackle the soaring cost of insulin, which endangers the lives of Florida's diabetics.

@MiamiHerald @TB_Times @samanthajgross The Senate has a bill to cap insulin costs. But the House version won't even get a hearing because of Avon Park Republican Rep. @CaryPigman, chair of the Health Market Reform Subcommittee. Image
@MiamiHerald @TB_Times @samanthajgross @CaryPigman Turns out, it's Dr. Pigman, and he gets a lot of contributions from the industries who profit from soaring insulin prices. Image

THREAD: Big drug companies want Floridians to be afraid of what could happen if the Florida Legislature passes a law (#HB19) that would allow Floridians access to FDA approved drugs wholesaled from Canada at much lower prices through local pharmacies. 1/ #FlLeg #FlPol
The @PhRMA front group is making bogus arguments about the safety of this proposal with examples that don't relate to the bill at all. The bill relies on the US FDA establishing an approval system covers drugs imported from Canada, and wouldnā€™t include opioids or benzoates. 2/
But besides the bogus arguments being made, the sham @PhRMA front group is missing a much more central point: this is Florida. There are so many things for us to be scared of besides Canadians secretly poisoning our drugs. Hereā€™s whatā€™s #ScarierThanCanadaRx 3/

.@FLGovScott has issued an exec order that appears to tell local authorities to not enforce the beach access bill that he signed into law. šŸ¤”
In a release @FLGovScott says the new law he signed has caused ā€œconsiderable confusionā€ & says heā€™s committed to keeping beaches open & he even urges prosecutors to keep beaches open
Maybe this is where one asks whether @FLGovScott office vetted the bill before signing it into law - or sought input from those who warned about it

Greetings from the @FLSenate, where they'll be voting out their bill in response to the #StonemanDouglas shooting today. That's after a rare Saturday session to amend the bill.
My thread on the Saturday session, which -- fair warning -- is Tolstoy-esque in its length though not its prose, is here:
The Stoneman Douglas bill will not be voted on till the afternoon, so sit tight if you're curious about that vote. In the meantime, this morning they'll be taking up HB7055, the big education bill.
