NEW from me @TheSpectator:

I’m at today’s long awaited @tiktok_us hearing, where the Communist spyware CEO is going to gaslight America

He’s now on on Cap Hill with a Socialist Congressman and a Biden-tied Mao lover's firm in his pockets

thespectator.com/topic/tiktok-f…

(1/xx) Image
TikTok’s CEO is gearing up for a grilling in Congress, but he’s got some new, powerful allies in his corner: a political consulting firm whose founder lavished praise on Mao Zedong and is now one of Biden’s top aides — and a socialist congressman who thespectator.com/topic/tiktok-f…twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Shou Zi Chew, the company’s CEO, is at @HouseCommerce, where Republicans are planning to press him on the national security concerns posed by the video app’s parent company ByteDance’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

SCOOP from me @TheSpectator:

Based directly on my reporting on the Chinese Communist Party and @WashWizards working together, lawmakers, along with hero @EnesFreedom wrote to @NBA commissioner Adam Silver demanding answers on their $$$ ties

#TX22's @RepTroyNehls was the point guard, so to speak, along with @EnesFreedom on this letter to @NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

Joining him are:

#MOSEN @Eric_Schmitt
#AKSEN @SenDanSullivan
#OK01 @repkevinhern
#FL19 @RepDonaldsPresstwitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Members of @HouseGOP and @SenateGOP, along with basketball star @EnesFreedom, are demanding answers from @NBA about its financial relationship with the Chinese Communist Party following an “in-your-face” display of CCP soft power in DC.

NEW from me @TheSpectator:

With all the attention on #NY03's @Santos4Congress, you'd think he's the only politician to have lied his way into office

Read this thread, you're about to learn a lot about Dems from the state house to the White House

thespectator.com/topic/democrat…

(1/xx)
Everywhere liberal journalists look, they see @Santos4Congress. They see him in fellow freshman Republicans Anna Paulina Luna and Andy Ogles, both of whom have recently been accused of fabricating details about the past in newspaper hit pieces.

thespectator.com/topic/democrat…

(2/xx)
With the coverage of @Santos4Congress's brief tenure, you’d be forgiven if you thought the new House GOP majority was filled with liars and résumé embellishers — that’s clearly the big picture that Dems and their allies in the press paint.

New from me @TheSpectator:

In the latest example of the NBA's "addiction" to Communist China and its cash, the Wizards played a video message from China's new foreign minister, who has threatened war with the United States!

thespectator.com/topic/china-wo…

(1/xx)
China’s new foreign minister, @AmbQinGang, issued his first public statement at @WashWizards game. “Happy Chinese New Year to DC family,” he said, in a video blasted on screens across @CapitalOneArena and shared by outlets controlled by the CCP.

(2/xx)
This is a continuation of China using American sporting events to exert its soft power, and is another stark example of the existential challenge the US faces in its struggle to outmaneuver Chinese Communists — even in its own capital!

Rick Scott was a great #FLGov from 2011 to 2019. He rebuilt the Florida GOP and then won the #FLSen seat. But he screwed up with his national plan, trying to build a platform for himself for a national position like Majority Leader. (1)
There's no denying that if you could list five to six things that slowed the GOP momentum in 2022, @ScottforFlorida's plan to vote on Social Security and Medicare every five years was a gift to Democrats, much like Paul Ryan's thick-headed budget plans in 2011. (2)
It makes no difference that Joe Biden lied about Scott's plan by saying the GOP would vote on authorizing Social Security "every year." Scott gave Biden a target, and forced GOP and fact-checkers to write about the plan. (3)

Congratulations @marcorubio!

Sen. Rubio is an articulate and effective advocate for commonsense pro-life protections, standing up to the abortion lobby for Floridians time after time. We look forward to continuing to work with him for life! #FLSen #LifeWins22

Sen. Rubio has consistently stood for life, working to support moms & babies both before and after birth.

Demings believes abortion should be paid for by taxpayers at any time during the pregnancy.

The contrast couldn’t be greater.

In many campaigns, sometimes there is an endorsement that serves as a finishing move. Today, the former mayor of Palm Beach County (!), a Democrat, endorsed #FLGov Ron DeSantis. #flsen #sayfie
It's hard to believe a South Florida Democrat who once served the tony liberal communities of Palm Beach et al. would endorse Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Palm Beach Co. is one of the three big South Florida Democratic counties. (2)
To be fair, Palm Beach is probably the least Democratic county of South Florida. It has a lot of Republicans, as does Miami-Dade. Joe Biden beat Trump by less than 100K in Palm Beach in 2020. (3)

For what it is worth, the margin of victory for every FL gov and presidential race back to 2010:

SCOTT #FLGOV - 2010 - 62K
OBAMA PRES - 2012 - 73K (Dem tide)
SCOTT #FLGOV - 2014 - 64K
TRUMP PRES - 2016 - 113K
DeSANTIS #FLGOV - 2018 - 32K (Dem tide)
TRUMP PRES - 2020 - 371K
DeSantis' victory in 2018 was against strong Democratic headwinds and Gillums' impressive cash haul of $55M. DeSantis was able to outspend Gillums in 2018. He also pounded Gillums on TV as being too liberal. (2)
But the GOP also held on to their big majorities in the Legislature. They lost no seats in the Senate and 2 in the House. (3)

If I rated Senate races by *margin* instead of probability over @SplitTicket_, I'd probably have #FLSen at likely R because I don't think Rubio wins by much more than low double digits at most, and it could get to mid-single digits.

But the odds he loses are near zero right now.
@SplitTicket_ Florida is not really considered a battleground state this year by anyone serious. DeSantis is exceedingly likely to win, and Rubio is probably even more likely to win than DeSantis is. Demings is a great candidate, but this is not the right year or matchup for her. Safe R.
@SplitTicket_ Also, the notion of rating Senate seats by margin never really made sense to me personally, because you try to quantify the likelihood it flips. Tossup/Lean/Likely/Safe are really just probability buckets on the odds of a seat going in a certain direction.

🧵 FLORIDA - 2022 Midterms Update:

Our Florida team has visited more than 200,000 homes to urge voters to re-elect pro-life champions @marcorubio and @RonDeSantisFL #IVoteProLife #FLSen #FLpol

Here's what they're hearing from voters:

"I never paid attention to politics, I didn’t want to get involved, but I am now!"

A voter told our Florida team she never wanted to think about politics, but she started to be more involved after learning about the extreme positions of pro-abortion politicians.

2/6 ImageImage
"Yes, we are all pro-life here!" This Florida voter is proudly pro-life and has been urging his family and friends to vote pro-life in November. He asked for extra doorhangers to share.

It is better for election results to be accurate than quick. Especially true because results may shift as more people vote by mail (and shift from Trump to Biden as Trump discourages Rs from voting by mail). See our report, Fair Elections During a Crisis: law.uci.edu/faculty/full-t…
Trump tried same playbook in 2018 in #FLSEN, saying that we "must go with election night totals" and not absentee and other ballots, including MILITARY BALLOTS, that were not yet counted. In 2018 the results were not final until ALL votes were counted. Same for 2020.
It was good to see most Republican leaders summarily rejecting Trump's trial balloon to delay the election (which he has no power to do). They should be condemning as well his attempt to delegitimize the election and cast doubt on mail in balloting.

The affidavit is from 2016 and is included as background to show a pattern of misconduct by Snipes.
Caldwell wants an injunction forcing Snipes to remove from the count absentees ballots that were received after the legal deadline.

He is represented by former U.S. Senator George LeMieux.

The news that @marceelias is running the Nelson legal effort in #FLSen is not surprising but shows that Dems are taking this very seriously. Thread from @alivitali here —>
Elias also is involved in #AZSen, where — sorry I buried the lede — Sinema now is in the lead. —>

A few top lines on this #FLSEN recount adventure, from a call with Marc Elias -- the lead lawyer on the Nelson effort. First and foremost, he thinks Senator Nelson is going to stay Senator Nelson by the end of this process.

(1/X)
The Nelson team is looking at Broward County (where votes are still being counted right now) and specifically an "under-vote" in the Senate race. Plain English: more people voted in the gov and AG race than in the Senate race, a pretty rare thing - Elias argues. #flsen

(2/X)
They're also looking at about ~10,000 votes still being counted in Palm Beach County, where Elias believes a “substantial number” of votes will end up a) counting and b) upping Nelson's vote share in the already blue area. #flsen

1/ #TexasSenateRace 1.4% of votes flipped by machines could have made the difference. The Hart eSlate machines have a bug triggered by “voters hitting a button or using the selection wheel before the screen is finished rendering”. Explanations given by officials are insufficient.
2/ The issue was known & had been entirely preventable by simply moving the senate race to a different position on the ballot, according to manufacturer and the TX sec. of state's office's explanations. That this wasn't done is highly suspicious, already. #TexasSenateRace
3/ The manufacturer's claim that the machine "does not, and cannot, 'flip' or 'switch' votes." is, of course, nothing more than damage control. There *is no way* of controlling the integrity of each individual voting machine that allows to make such a statement in good faith.

ELECTION NIGHT THREAD: This will be my thread for the night, starting with this great story from @katherinemiller, with its hour-by-hour accounting of what is going on tonight and when it's (likely) going to happen. buzzfeednews.com/article/kather…
And ... polls are closed in Kentucky and Indiana.
NOTE: As happens every election, there'll be a couple polling places/counties in several states that stay open later due to issues from earlier in the day. So, check your specific county/polling place if you need to vote! For ex, Monroe County in Indiana: idsnews.com/article/2018/1…

If you're watching election results tonight, here's a breakdown of what I'm going to be watching for in the race for Congress as the numbers come in -->
Here are the magic numbers to keep in mind tonight:

Democrats need to flip 23 SEATS in order to win back the House.

Democrats need to flip 2 SEATS in order to win back the Senate.
The first exit polls will land at 5:00pm so we'll have some ideas about makeup of the electorate compared to previous years, etc. The first actual races close at 6:00pm: KY-6 will be the one to watch, with an eye on IN-9, but we won't read *too* much into these.

1. Have to share a conversation I just had with my friend's wife. 1) B/C she said I can, and 2) B/C I've known her for years and couldn't believe my own ears.

She's a gentry Chicago liberal in her late 50s, who can't stand Trump, voted for HRC in 2016. She wanted to tell me...
2. She wanted to tell me she's going to do something she's never before done in her life. She has never cast a vote for a Republican. Never. Ever. But she's voting for Rep. Ted Yoho in #FL3 and Rick Scott for #FLSen. Democrats scared the hell out of her. Why? Her sons & husband.
3. For governor, she claims to still be undecided. She doesn't see it as a nationalized race. But I made a joke about liberal virtue.

Her response: "There is no liberal virtue anymore."

Her husband is conservative. So, they've cancelled each other out for years. Not this year.
