1. As pesquisas sobre o novo coronavírus estão no começo, mas há evidências preliminares de que sua taxa de mortalidade seja significativamente maior do que dos vírus do tipo influenza, causadores da gripe.
Um estudo da London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine estimou a mortalidade da nova doença em 0,5% do total de infectados (contando casos não diagnosticados). Outro, da Universidade de Bern, na Suíça, calculou esse número em 1,6%.
