THE WEEK IN POLITICS
#7MemesFor7Days of political immaturity, incompetence & idiocy —or evil by design?

(Stories tended to break late in the day this week, so I've gone for themes instead of days.)

1. Tory hypocrisy vis-à-vis #NHS laid bare by *clap on Sunday, clamp on Monday*
#7MemesFor7Days

2. Johnson made his mismanagement of C19 in #CareHomes worse by BLAMING them for the high death toll —a mistake he's tried to row back from, but refuses to do the one thing that might help: apologise, even tho' Starmer gave him 3 opportunities to do so at #PMQs.

3. The Times announced Cummings will cut the UK's armed forces. One Tory backbencher (#TobiasEllwood)found his backbone & questioned *Why Dom?* Another(#MarkFrançois) took it as a cue to threaten a General he'd get Cummings on to him. Silence from DefenseSec...🙄

Today is possibly .@theresa_may's last day as PM, if .@BorisJohnson can command a majority (which is in some doubt...)

So it's a great opportunity to look back at some of the *highlights* of Mrs May's premiership in memes👇
13 JUL 2016: May was appointed as PM and named her Cabinet shortly thereafter, surprising many by giving 3 of the top #Brexit-related jobs to arch-brexiters Boris Johnson, David Davis & Liam Fox. Sheer folly, or genius in making them own what they'd sold? Sadly, the former😢

5 OCT 2016: With such a narrow result, the country could be forgiven for expecting May to propose a consensual solution, as Norway PM Erna Solberg had done in a similar situation. Most Remainers would've accepted #Norway.

May's #CitizensOfNowhere speech crushed all hope.

48 hours ago, I was on the headline news Corby East Midlands train emergency for 13 HOURS. Profits before people, dangerous decisions & illegal flood levels lead to a terrifying ordeal that should never have happened.

A thread 👇(1/25)
Got the train from Sheffield at 13:59, going to St. Pancras. All straightforward until around 16:00. Unforeseen circumstances meant we waited at Leicester. After 30 mins, they decided to reroute onto a seldom used track to get us to London quickly. The first bad decision. (2/25)
The Met Office had issued 51 flood warnings for this precise area that day. The track was deep between grassy banks with miles of old tunnel that tightly hugs trains, like the tube. In FLOOD CONDITIONS! Not long out of Leicester we got trapped, you guessed it, in a flood. (3/25)

I met Chris Grayling once ... it was 2001 and he was standing to become an MP. He didn't like my questions much but admitted to a 'hideous mistake'
@mrjamesob ‘incomprehensible incompetence’ you said #FailingGrayling
