Let’s talk #strike not one person wants to strike!!! What we want is to do our jobs with fair pay, decent conditions to have enough money to pay the bills and feed our kids!!! We want recognition for the amazing job we do day in day out

#EnoughlsEnough
Our jobs aren’t easy, we take them home in our heads and our hearts because it’s what we do!!! WE CARE!!! We just want #FairPay along with hospital staff, firefighters, rail workers, civil servants, postal workers, care workers. All those who keep this country running

This government seem to forget that we are the ones who work for the people and those people do appreciate us even if those in power care only about their money. It’s time for action. It’s time!!! #EnoughlsEnough #FairPayOrFireStrike #FairPay4HomeCare #FairPayforNursing

THREAD

At inaugural meeting of new Integrated Care Board (ICB), I raised concerns about integration w private sector, referencing analysis published in Lancet that outsourcing health care services to private sector had increased treatment mortality. #Bath

I stressed that the priority of private companies is to make a profit and that Integrated Care Systems (ICS) are a scheme that incentivise reduced care, referencing Panorama’s documentary about Operose Health exposing use of cheaper less qualified staff.

I asked if Board would commit to:

- recognising health & care staff trade unions and representative professional bodies, and work with them to improve staff pay, employment terms & conditions?

I fully support the idea that every child should have the right to learn a musical instrument, but unless you've worked in state schools, with respect, you don't know how complicated this is. It's not as simple as just supplying musical instruments to all children. 1/9
I worked in London Borough of Newham where there is a scheme to offer free instrumental lessons to children on Free School Meals. Excellent scheme, highly commended. HOWEVER. Many who were eligible didn’t want to take up or weren’t able to engage and benefit if they did. 2/9
This is because inequality makes practice and engagement next to impossible. If your mum works nights and sleeps in the afternoon/evening, you can’t practice. If you live in a 3 bed house with 5 other people, your practice is not welcome. 3/9

Outrageous that Janet Yellen was paid for these speeches ... at lower rates than her male counterparts. Get on that investigation, Sam! #FairPay
I see from the responses that some of you miss sarcasm and others think a paid speech is de facto “corruption” ... shouldn’t we ask for the Yellen transcripts first? Maybe see what she said? Would any facts matter? Where are the guidelines for a donor or sponsor? Discuss!
Well I’m back from zoom yoga and read your responses. 3 Qs (so far) 1-who are sponsors (same with corp, people, media who fund podcasters and pundits)? 2-what is speech content? 3-does $/access change content/ behavior + what role do ethics lawyers play in such an instance? also-

#fairpay (3/6)

Just came out of Democracy Commission to obv crushing news. Would be easy to descend into doom. Just remember that’s what Tories wanted their 50% shitty threshold to do. They want us demoralised. Resist! We have a lot to assess + do. We need to build. We need resources to do it/1
A lot of us did a lot of work on GTVO. We’re knackered. We reached a lot of ppl+got strong YES result. What can we learn+do? Must reflect+organise together at every level. How can we boost creative ideas like those at HESC in November and reach more ppl? Eg ntnl phonebanking? /2
We need deep diving on what holds some members back from voting. Research we did @leedsucu last time gave us a mixed picture of timing, ballot confusion+fatigue, key messages not getting across. Has this changed? Have we succeeded in some areas/dropped others or stayed same?/3
