The most bizarre argument I have heard from educated globally traveled capitalist folks is that (somehow) it's immoral that the Modi govt used it's majority in parliament to pass bills & laws. These same folks give lectures on democracy & how Trump must accept election results.

I have tried to discern the logic in this argument & as I have stated on here earlier the reasons I surmise are as follows.
India with coalition Govts from 80s till 14 for 25yrs meant the tail wagged the dog & we believed THAT was how nature intended it to be. A ragtag 10 member

party decided who the PM should be. At every stage brokers took over every single aspect of the govt & nation that we became so comfortable with that system. Those who were in their 30s & spent 25yrs in their broker led admin of India at 55+ today are finding themselves totally

कुछ लोगों ने नासमझी में और कुछ लोगों ने सब कुछ समझते हुए भी नए रास्ते का विरोध किया तो प्रधान ने कहा कि मैंने पुराना रास्ता बंद नहीं किया है सिर्फ नया रास्ता बनवाया है जिसको जिस भी रास्ते से गुजरना हो वह गुजर ले।

ज्यादातर गांव वाले मन बना चुके हैं कि वह नए वाले रास्ते से ही गुजरेंगे लेकिन जो लोग पहलवान के साथ सांठगांठ किए बैठे हैं, कमीशनखोरी पर ही पल रहे हैं वह लोग खूब हो हल्ला मचा रहे हैं और ऐसा बताने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं जैसे सारे गांव वाले उस पुराने रास्ते से ही जाने के समर्थन में हैं।

The attempt to remove constraints on farmers as to where they sell their produce should in normal course be welcome. After all any move that could get them a better price shd be good. BUT in India anything privatized or where Govt cedes control means cronyism.

So a few big companies could soon decide among themselves the price and farmers may lose out as the APMC's lose their sheen and MSP goes out of vogue. So even a right step ends up with a wrong result. This is bcos of inherent lack of ethics in our big companies & Govt officials

Over a period of time thanks to the rampant cronyism, free market economics starts to look bad and Govt control over everything starts to look a better option than it really is. Unless cronyism is curbed and true capitalism is able to thrive our economy is doomed to struggle

Will the #farmersbill benefit farmers? The short answer is, we don't know yet. Flagging a few gaps here. A thread.

With the new set of laws, trade will likely move out of regulated mandis to save on taxes and fees. Will traders pass on their savings to farmers? Looks unlikely.

Transactions outside mandis will become invisible, unless the government puts in place a mechanism to record them. If we don't know what price a new buyer is offering farmers, no way we can evaluate if farmers are benefiting or losing out.
