Beständige Wellenhöhen (~1m) in

-- Vaccinating the Pacific --

By @AlexandreDayant - projecting #Covid19 vaccination rates and timelines for 14 countries across the Pacific Islands region.
The research reveals a region divided. Countries in the Northern Pacific have benefitted from the United States' vaccine rollout, and small island nations have been quick to take advantage of supply to reach high coverage rates.
But countries in Melanesia are lagging behind, with #SolomonIslands, #Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea expected to reach less than 20 percent of their population by the end of 2022. #PNG is projected to reach only 35 percent coverage by 2026.

To #Fiji petty patriarchs... Stop it. Stop the noise, frightening calls, drunkenness, petty fights, violence against members of your household.

Most of all, stop doing it all and coming on social media being like 'God is my number one'.

On behalf of survivors & those who help brave survivors pick up pieces of brave lives after your cowardly, entitled violence- A hearty FUCK YOU. (I don't usually swear on SM but...)

Yes, worse in COVID19.
Yes, people already angry & hurt

The Fijians on Bougainville
The First Commando #Fiji Guerrillas had so impressed the American South Pacific Command while fighting in 1942-43 in the Central Solomons that Fijian Commandos and a Fijian Battalion were requested to join them on Bougainville in late 1943.
Dec 1943: When XIV Corps took over the Torokina base from the 3rd US Marines, Maj-Gen Oscar Griswold was concerned about the inability of his raw units to gather intelligence in the harsh tropical conditions.
He’d seen the “Pacific Scouts” in action in the early Solomons actions.
Due to the Fijians’ clearly superior jungle skills, they were given scouting and harassment roles behind enemy lines in the dense wooded hills.
Aerial surveillance was inadequate so the Fijians sought out enemy locations on long patrols, frequently skirmishing with the enemy.

Meanwhile in #France,
"the peak of this second wave is over"

(according to the President in his Adress to the Nation):
Wait... "the peak is over" doesn´t mean "it´s back to normal"!

Confinement will only fall on December 15,
if there´s less than 5.000 new cases a day.
(today it´s ~9.000).

France is disappointed.🙁

Although they certainly can make it happen.
Meanwhile in #Switzerland:
(excess mortality of the second wave is significant)

Good news: fastest decrease in infections happens in the worst hit areas now.

As #COVID19 cases are found to spread, #Melbourne (city of ~5 million) tries to contain them by going into #Lockdown.
(The interview features the idea of a dedicated #Quarantine building - that would actually help, I guess)...

"The virus had leaked from postcodes already under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of #Melbourne."
(and beyond, it is feared).
Due to #Melbourne's outbreak, neighbouring South Australia is about to completely close it's borders to #Victoria.

(Nearly) no exceptions. And those essential few who are allowed in, will have to wear facemasks the entire time...

The greatest threat to the world’s oceans and all denizens of the deep is Not plastic, or climate change, or ignorance of sharks. The Chinese Communist Party paramilitary fishing fleet has invaded the globe Image
and they are wreaking havoc and destruction, while stealing everything possible, including minerals from adjoining lands. They have sellout minions who distract from this with a host of minor conservation missions that suck up well intended activists,
and the money of people who thought they were helping. With control of media the real story is fully censored for locals in many places. Any real ocean lover, activist, educator, or conservationist will stand for this cause. The rest will sit down, for the CCP.
