A Message from MSIFN’s Chief and Council on Durham Region’s Vote Against Studying the Implications of Greenbelt Carveouts @RegionofDurham
Chief Kelly LaRocca and Councillors Laura Colwell and Jeff Forbes shocked by Regional Council decision which violates public trust and (1/5)
(2/5) fails future generations.
SCUGOG – “We are profoundly troubled by Durham Region’s vote to not study the implications of carving out land from the Greenbelt.
“As we have repeatedly said, there is no turning back from destroying the environment. The wetlands and
(3/5) biodiverse areas that are part of the Greenbelt have developed over millennia and serve critical purposes in balancing our ecosystems and ensuring that humanity can thrive. These areas cannot simply be replaced with other undeveloped parcels of land somewhere else

Earlier today, Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark confirmed that the PC government didn't consult with #FirstNations before passing their controversial housing #Bill23 23. Said consultations will happen now, that it's already become law. #onpoli
Clark also said municipalities will also "deal with our #Indigenous partners" as well.

The @ChiefsofOntario are not amused, arguing that #Bill23 is a "blatant violation" of Indigenous rights, and that the PCs do not have jurisdiction to make "unilateral administrative changes"
"First Nations are in the best position to identify the necessary measures to mitigate or prevent adverse environmental impacts. We are concerned with Clark's comments to 'deal' with First Nations by way of requesting after-the-fact commentary regarding the passing of Bill 23."

1/ As if the #opioid crisis and the pending #ONhealth ED collapse weren’t enough, @OntariosDoctors section on Addiction Medicine warning OAT clinics across Ontario could see service disruptions as of Dec 1, 2022 (ironically #internationalaids day)
2/ At issue is the implementation of the new virtual care codes which will slash fees for video consultations with new patients— patients in rural or remote areas without access to specialists are likely to be most impacted. #onpoli #onhealth
3/The irony is that #mentalhealth in #ontario was pioneering in establishing the virtual care capacity that got us through #covid. Many community-based #buprenorphine programs in rural and remote areas operated virtually prior to the pandemic, increasing #accessibility to OAT.

1/10 PM @JustinTrudeau & #NATO @jensstoltenberg just visited #Canada’s biggest fighter jet base, CFB Cold Lake, in #Alberta. Canadians should know that the land for this @RCAF_ARC base & air weapons range was stolen from First Nations 70 years ago. bit.ly/3CxYLCb 🧵⬇️
2/From 1952-1960 Liberal govt gave minimal compensation to Dene & Cree peoples for taking land then stopped all payments. Loss of land had devastating consequences: poverty, despair & trauma. They lost traditional hunting grounds & sacred sites that were under Treaties 6, 8 & 10.

I’m putting together a video diary of my experiences as a #Whistleblower and #FirstNations person. Over the weeks I intend to discuss the racism I’ve personally experienced in Australia and the corruption I’ve witnessed from @AusFedPolice @actgovernment and ACT “just-us” system
Good morning everyone it’s #ReconciliationWeek again, and I’m posting the second instalment of my video diary. As I’ve often mentioned before on Twitter I’m a member of the stolen generation(s) and a whistleblower into corruption in the Government Solicitor’s office and Treasury.
It’s the #ReconciliationDay Holiday in the ACT today, and day that drips with hypocrisy. The ACT has the highest per capita rate of #FirstNations incarceration in the country, it’s had the highest growth in FN incarnation in the country. The ACT has structural racism issues …

Is anyone keeping track of how many Apologies have been given to #FirstNations #Indigenous peoples in Canada?

Or more importantly..changes that have come as a measure of amends for acknowledged wrongs commensurate with the level of harm for what’s being apologised for?
I understand that the #Indian #ResidentialSchools were but one component of the overall Xanadian Gov strategy to remove #FirstNations from their Traditional Territories for the use & benefit of settlers & exclude FN’s from any benefit of wealth generated
This exclusion is successfully being perpetuated today by the Crown Govts of Canada

PM’s Harper & Trudeau have apologised for what has happened like it was from a far off long ago era

#ResidentialSchools amends must far more than “Healing” but include the political dynamic

@MacEanruig do you think the so called "leaders" of blacklivesmatter were dictating what was happening in the streets?

Don't you think part of a coopt/smear by association involves many donations from corrupt actors? I watched it all happen in realtime live man
@MacEanruig the first few days proud boy chuds like ptnews were talking about it... what actually tipped me off to it =)

then when more and more support of truckers came and the protest started morphing into being against all corrupt government policies then fox news and other RW media took
@MacEanruig interest in the protest.. and after the entire 99% including #firstnations #occupy and many other activists and the whole of canada joined in... trump is now mentioning it.. and now the draconian laws that will be normalized for EVERYONE are in play! Welcome to the #Newnormal!

My late father never said he was a survivor, he said he was an escapee of residential schools.

We were raised to believe being Indian was a gift and because of this we were empowered to stand for our people.

When we were kids we’d go to the states to visit my mom’s family (she
was from Yuma Arizona).

Once we stopped in Lethbridge for the night and my dad tried to get a room where the sign said vacancy. No rooms he was told.

We drove off and my dad called from a pay phone. “Yes we have a room”, he was told.

Then he called the police to come back to
that same motel and keep the peace so we could get a room.

I still remember my mom whispering to be quick and get inside because they didn’t want us here.

My mom was cautious. My dad stood his ground.

Today, I remember these times and I walk proudly. I am on the land of my

#Trudeau jets to Tofino for vacation on 1st "#TruthAndReconciliation" day.

Father of my children, #Indian, #sixtiesscoop survivor, worked all day to survive in #colonial system. He can no longer sit in a local coffee shop, let alone a plane. #NoJab

#TruthAndReconciliation is marketing-as is #OrangeShirtDay2021 & holiday for white people on stolen land. Reconciliation would be giving land back. EuroAmerican destroys everything in path. #Indigenous peoples rep. less than 5% of pop. -yet support approx. 80% all #biodiversity.
#TruthBeforeReconciliation would be criminal charges against those responsible for res. schools & dead children. "However, as w/ any criminal case, the charges would be laid by the Crown—which would essentially amount to the govt putting itself on trial."

Tragedy like the #LyttonFire is the very reason why we should talk about the impacts of #climatechange on these events and on #wildfires in Canada. A thread. 1/

Obviously, #wildfires are strongly linked to #weather/#climate parameters. The warmer, the windier, the drier is the weather, the more fire ignition probabilities and spread

PM Harper delivers apology for residential schools
June 11, 2008 - PM Stephen Harper apologized on behalf of the Government of Canada for the abuse and suffering caused by government-sanctioned residential schools @AboriginalPress --- and I apologize for poor govt
@AboriginalPress --- and I apologize for poor govt --- today we have Liberal MP's cabinet ministers & pm that have neglected Cdns, exasperated the many First Nations situations, put all of Canada in a worse position. His lies & apologies are empty. @liberal_party @CPC_HQ
PM Harper did not go far enough, that part is true. But Justin's father built the schools. Chretien was Minister of Indian Affairs. So much water under the bridge has done nothing to help. I know we can repair the water-problems

I became a dr, a brown one at that!Doesn’t that mean we have equality? Despite the fact at least a 1/5 of the work of GPs is fam violence related - there’s no fam violence Medicare rebate. GP’s are financially #MedTwitter
Penalised if they spend too long with a patient.
Medicare cards are linked with abusive hsbs so some women cannot access medical help.
GPs know that women need more than what can be offered in a consult- but the psychologist or psychiatrist books are full- & they charge gaps...
But these women, even the rich ones are under financial control & cannot pay!
So we sometimes try not to charge but then we have our own families to consider & once again female drs will wear the costs because the govt won’t.@RonniSalt @Lisa_Wilkinson @Drhutch2011

#Cascadia's climate activists have had global impact, yet emissions keep rising here in #Washington #Oregon & #BC.

2021 opens with renewed hope for a real transition, as documented in Part 3 of @INVW's year-long Getting to Zero #decarbonization project. invw.org/2021/01/25/aft…
#BritishColumbia set the pace when #Cascadia's govts set initial climate targets >10yrs ago. In 2021 #Washington and @JayInslee step way out with a 95%/net-zero target for 2050, tough interim goals, and a detailed strategy to get there.

#InvasionDay - a thread about Australia Day
1/8 For those who still think British ‘colonisation’ of Australia wasn’t that bad & celebrating the arrival of the First Fleet on 26 January 1788 is fine...here is an article from the Coburg Leader of 1893....
2/8 This is a real newspaper article from 128 years ago which is describing in graphic & appalling detail.....genocide. I apologise if this is upsetting reading (because it certainly is), but it’s really clear that.......
3/8....too many Australians of European heritage are completely ignorant about what really happened. How their & my own forebears took this land and systematically displaced & destroyed First Nations people. Read this & know this. Face this.

We are calling for a $500m national #EdibleGardening fund as a necessary and urgent investment in public and community #health to be co-financed by Federal, State and Territory governments.

We’re in a national emergency, and we must respond accordingly. #urbanagriculture
Dietary-related ill-health and mental illness cost Australia around $200 bn every year.

With COVID-19 and the climate emergency, these costs will rise and more will experience #hunger and #foodinsecurity. In a country as wealthy as #Australia, there is no excuse for this.
The levels of food poverty and dietary-related ill-health amongst #FirstNations communities are a matter of national shame.

Edible gardening has immense power to do good, as our national #PandemicGardening survey showed.
