It’s that time of year again when I remind people that donating even $5 to food banks and pantries is better than saddling them with all your unwanted canned foods.
Canned goods have a particularly low rate of charitable return. They’re heavy and awkward to manage, they’re difficult to fit into a family’s meal plan. Ppl buy their canned goods at 4x the bulk price that can be obtained by food banks. Please just donate a few bucks.
I share this, btw, not to criticize anyone. So many of us grew up doing canned food drives at school/church--it's something we automatically do around the holidays now because we've been told it's more helpful than it is. Just trying to correct this idea.

Today’s Question :
Why does WS Food Bank not want my food donations? I saw that Toronto has record food bank demand. Great question – the Food Bank has seen an increase in new clients over the past months as we copes with Coronavirus and economic changes that it's brought about.
As you may have heard, the lease on 1 of our 2 units has not been renewed, storage space has been reduced by half. Imagine if 1/2 of your kitchen cupboards were gone! We're managing by keeping inventory low and shopping more frequently, targeted to our weekly needs.
This is not only more efficient, it results in less food waste and ensures that we can offer our families more nutrition and balance. We shop locally and our dollar goes a long way with the support of local stores, farms and businesses.
We love our caring Stouffville community.

My kid helped me out, and Stevie Licks too. Even had a chance to catch up with a few neighbours like @hownowinternet (at a safe distance of course).

Our community is so incredibly giving and generous. Way to go #DavenportTO! ImageImageImage
