Iโ€™ve raised the issue of those #Excluded from Government support in 6 oral questions, 7 speeches, dozens of written questions and 3 debates Iโ€™ve led. Yet progress has been minimal โ€“ hence the need for todayโ€™s debate.

Itโ€™s a waste of time for Ministers to keep up their strategy of parroting what HAS been done to support people. What matters is that gaps still exist.
The Treasury might tell us theyโ€™ve amended the RTI cut-off date โ€“ but this does nothing for those who missed out on furlough because of their roles as PAYE freelancers or annually paid limited company directors.

I've thinking about the budget in relation to the constituents whose cases I have raised in the chamber this past year
Short thread ๐Ÿ‘‡1/5
5% VAT for hospitality is welcome as is the furlough extension but the reality is that furlough is costing businesses that are currently closed money - it's not the scheme they accessed a year ago. Fixed monthly costs continue and grants don't cover them 2/5
There's no actual change to Self Employment Support - it's just that more people qualify by having 19/20 tax returns. Despite the work of @APPGGapsSupport and all of the support groups - nothing for #ExcludedUK #ForgottenLtd and others 3/5

@LBC @NickFerrariLBC @RishiSunak let me reply to your ridiculous answers as you clearly donโ€™t understand your own schemes. The 50% rule does not mean that the majority of income is from employment and can be furloughed on that part. On directors: if a director draws a small salary and the majority...
@LBC @NickFerrariLBC @RishiSunak ..of their income via dividends. Say for example ยฃ600pm salary and ยฃ40k dividends per annum. They have a choice to furlough themselves and receive ยฃ480 pm ON THE CONDITION that they do not do any revenue generating work for their own company OR receive nothing and.....
@LBC @NickFerrariLBC @RishiSunak ...try and make their business survive. At the same time a sole trader can receive SEISS at 80% of profits AND continue to work. How exactly is that fair? Correct me if I am wrong but it seems as though you are implying that dividends are not an income. If this is true then....

Chair @MelJStride asks about the gaps in support in the Government's response to #coronavirus.

@RishiSunak said it's obviously the case that not everyone feels they would've been helped how they would've liked.

He added that we need to look forward.

My tweets today are devoted to rhymes.
Limericks with five short lines at a time.
To mark Edward Learโ€™s birth,
Iโ€™ll write tweets full of mirth.
Itโ€™s fun, so join in... if so inclined.

Iโ€™ll be sad to lose followers from this.
If you go then please know youโ€™ll be missed.
Create free like a child,
But just keep your words mild.
And change rhyme so you donโ€™t take the... mickey.

Itโ€™s International Nurse Day as well.
Giving time now to show and to tell.
How such compassion and care,
In our need when theyโ€™re there.
Should be thanked more when weโ€™re out of this spell.

Rishi Sunak is talking about winding down the furlough scheme but thousands of Brits aren't covered by it in the first place.

For @indy100 I spoke to people who've fallen through the cracks and are desperately trying to make sure they're not forgotten. indy100.com/article/rishi-โ€ฆ
It seems unbelievable that over six weeks since Sunak announced the measures, thousands who ๐‘ค๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘’ ๐‘–๐‘› ๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘–๐‘‘ ๐‘’๐‘š๐‘๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘ฆ๐‘š๐‘’๐‘›๐‘ก ๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘’๐‘› ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘๐‘˜๐‘‘๐‘œ๐‘ค๐‘› ๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘‘ have still not received any financial support. Like people who started a new job after 28 February.
People like Tim, who shares his story in the piece. Tim is a chef who started a new job on 8th March - before the cut off date of 19 March. But Tim's boss can't furlough him; workers can only be furloughed if they were PAID before the 19 March. Tim is paid monthly, on the 28th.
