Inspired by the calls for freedom from British rule, Subba Rao was scribbling ‘Quit India’ on street walls in the city when he was arrested by the colonial police. After spending a day in police custody, he got released.
The arrest, however, didn’t diminish his desire to fight, and he participated actively in various programs. In school, he was inspired by the teachings of Gandhi and even became an advocate for khadi wear.

Born on March 25, 1920, in Saras, Gujarat, Usha was just 22 when she helped establish the underground station Congress Radio, which amplified #MahatmaGandhi’s message of rebellion.
After the clarion call to #QuitIndiaMovement was blown on 9 August 1942, a young Usha told her father that her education would have to wait and left her home to contribute to the freedom movement.

They are still trying to drive this same narrative! Language like safe and effective and benefits outweigh the risks!?! Even saying they have been thoroughly examined???

In light of NTU's long overdue decision of approving the text on the plaque in commemoration of its late professor & Taiwan's democracy activist Chen Wen-chen (陳文成), who died under mysterious circumstances in 1981 during White Terror, here's a long and heart-wrenching thread.
Chen was born in the family of 8 kids in Taipei in 1950, studious like most students back in those time in Taiwan, he graduated NTU and left for US in '75 to UMich (Go Blue!), earning both a master and a PhD in statistics under just 3 years. He soon joined the faculty at CMU.
At school, he was known to have criticized the KMT-led government and advocated for Taiwan independence, raising funds to help those imprisoned in the wake of the Kaohsiung Incident as well as in support for Formosa Magazine, which opposed the KMT's one-party rule.
Ganpati Yadav,born in 1920,was a #freedomfighter & courier in the Toofan Sena,the armed wing of the provisional, underground govt of Satara that declared independence from British rule in 1943. He undertook long, dangerous journeys on foot& later on a cycle. #FitIndiaMovement
A yr ago,at 96 he cycled 150 kms up to Pandharpur & back using a 25 yr old cycle. A #farmer himself, Yadav is unhappy with how today’s farmers are sinking under the burden of #debt. “We got swarajya but things are not what we were expecting.” #FitIndiaMovement
