I worked as a consultant for the Department of Public Welfare for more than three years.

I’ve done the #MATH, and @andrewyang’s #FreedomDividend is vastly superior to many public assistance benefits.

I explain in this thread.

cc @scottsantens, @Zach_Graumann
@AndrewYang @scottsantens @Zach_Graumann 1/ One of the criticisms of Yang’s Freedom Dividend is that the $1,000/month doesn’t stack (i.e. add to) *some* public assistance benefits. For example, someone receiving $150/month SNAP benefits won’t receive $1,150/month; they must choose SNAP or the Freedom Dividend.
@AndrewYang @scottsantens @Zach_Graumann 2/ Yang’s campaign has explained which benefits will stack with the Freedom Dividend and which benefits will not. Make sure to research this.

For simplicity purposes, in this thread I’m referring to a scenario wherein someone receives SNAP only (again: SNAP doesn’t stack).

Should @AndrewYang worry about reaching & SECURING the Black Vote? #YangGang

@AndrewYang Thread 1: Pandering Vs Meaningful Policy

In 2020..Politicians must spend more effort talking to us not at us..".that candidates’ efforts to engage black communities often focus more on symbolic gestures than MEANINGFUL interactions." #BlacksForYang

vox.com/identities/201…
@AndrewYang What I really want the #YangGangFamily to understand ...ANYONE specifically talking to us about our own issues different to yours is NOT PANDERING...It's pandering when it's all about style (sounding cool, playing hiphop, photo ops etc..) and ZERO SUBSTANCE..no fake interest.

@WesPDX86 @DROC2447 @cenkuygur @BernieSanders If you look back historically, all great movements have been led by people who made it about more than just themselves. @AndrewYang is true servant leader. He has the "chops" meaning he first came to understand the most pressing challenges we face in the 21st Century...
@WesPDX86 @DROC2447 @cenkuygur @BernieSanders @AndrewYang Andrew understands how to look at the entire system and identifying the leverage points that need to be fundamentally changed in order to fix the system. The #HumanityFirst movement is more about a long-term approach that has given people a GPS if you will on how to behave...
@WesPDX86 @DROC2447 @cenkuygur @BernieSanders @AndrewYang If you read through his 120+ policies you will see & come to understand someone who addresses both the big & small things that will improve people's lives. So I've been trying to consolidate my understanding of UBI as a mechanism for economic prosperity, and my understanding of UBI as a futurist and techno-optimist.

I think I'm figuring out a bit of how @AndrewYang arrived near the $1000/mo mark. [1/?]
@AndrewYang It's really quite simple, but the two most obvious explanations ($1k is nice and round & $12k/yr is just below poverty line) don't fully explain the number, imo.

First I want to explain how I see UBI.

1) UBI is a lien-on-life for capitalism until... [2/?]
@AndrewYang ...humans have little to no economic input value (which is not a guaranteed eventuality, but quite possible, imo). See @neuralink for details on how I think we can avoid this.

2) UBI is a way to allow humans to have economic leverage while power is rapidly consolidated... [3/?]

Why @AndrewYang’s campaign is brilliant: a thread, with predictions at the end. #YangGang #Yang2020 @scottsantens

After 2016, I felt disenfranchised. All the emotional energy I put into the Sanders campaign — and then Clinton — felt wasted.
So in ‘17 and ‘18, I started looking into what went wrong. I had become a boilerplate social justice progressive up until that point. My gut told me that we had been blindsided by Trump because we fundamentally misread the room.
So I started paying attention to political outsiders who challenged liberal and conservative orthodoxies.

Finally, in 2018, I read an interview with Yang. He had decided to run for President on UBI. At the time, his website was threadbare — he seemed like an intriguing blip.

Hey @PeteButtigieg while you're up there smirking/laughing @ #AndrewYang, remember this - I've played by the rules, worked all my life & been a good person. EVERYTHING I had, I lost in the financial crisis - my beautiful home, it was my pride, my marriage crumbled, my pay was...
cut in half. It took me 9 years to recover. While myself & countless Americans were left to languish for years, car makers who've automated their factories/cut jobs/left the US for years were bailed out along w/ the criminals in the big banks to the tune of trillions...
Yet, for you, it's laughable when @AndrewYang speaks of bailing out Americans, propping up communities, restoring Main St economies from the bottom up with the thing that saved big banks, CASH. It's laughable to you because elitist politicians, in their Messiah-complex...

This will be a brief thread about @AndrewYang's google presence during the debate.

First exhibit: a 4-hour run on the interest he saw. #1 in average interest during the debate.

P.S. Did Kamala actually say something interesting?

#MATH #LetYangSpeak
@AndrewYang Andrew's search interest performance was not just relegated to high-tech regions, the midwest, or anywhere in particular. He won the entire country during the debate (lol except Montana and Oklahoma).

@AndrewYang The related queries? THIS is very telling.

They were all STRAIGHT to his website, presumably to register for his #FreedomDividend raffle. Some think it was a silly choice for #YangsDebateSurprise, but clearly it was effective.

#MyYangStory I grew up in poverty with two disabled parents. I watch them struggle with their measly $1,157/mo from SSI and the dehumanizing conditions to receive the resources they need to survive. When I told them about Yang's #FreedomDividend 1/
They were very excited and hopeful to be emancipated from demeaning means-testing, the welfare cliff and fear of losing resources. Bernie says that people inherently want to work, and I believe that is true. But my disabled mom & dad do not want to work for the Fed Gov't. 2/
With the FD, my parents would essentially be doubling their income each month ($2k/month), while still receiving their housing assistance & medicare. My dad would be able to learn to sell things online, my mom would love to have a farm stand & be less afraid to volunteer. 3/

Headed to see @AndrewYang tonight at a small fundraiser #YangGang!
Heidi & I are gonna be eating PBJs for the rest of the year to cover the donation cost but WORTH IT!
5 hours to go, will post pics if/when I can. It’s at a person’s house so I wanna respect their privacy, will ask
Will prolly get to talk to him for maaaaybe 90 seconds so lemme know if there’s rapid fire burning questions you want to ask 😊No promises but I’ll try

Heidi has spent a lot of time choosing her LipSense color for tonight
Argh. Our air conditioner in the car just crapped out. No kidding. We’ve got most of the windows down but Heidi doesn’t want to jack up her hair too bad. That #FreedomDividend would be real damn nice about now. Hopefully it’s not the compressor 😬

Thought experiment as an #artistforyang:
Let’s say I’m a 23 year old painter straight out of college.
Moved to NYC to follow my dream.
Oh no, rent is crazy!!? $1,100 for THAT? How am I going to afford this? With all other necessities, I need MINIMUM $2000/ month to survive!
With @SenSanders #FightFor15 min. wage:
I immediately pick up an office job. Restaurants pay less now, because servers have to report more tips to tax to hit the 15$ threshold.
I work full time at 40 hours/week, and make about $1700 / month after taxes.
Still not livable.
I pick up a part time job serving for that extra needed income. I work that job 12 hours / week, and make an extra 200/week.
Yay! Let’s get some cake, I’ve made enough to survive!!
....crap - I have no real time to paint now.

I understand why #YangGang and #Bernie supporters don't get along.

1) @AndrewYang trusts people, whereas @BernieSanders trusts institutions. This is vital. Hence the #FreedomDividend puts $$$ directly into people's hands but #FJG/$15 makes people go through institutions for $$$
2) Yang is inherently capitalist, Sanders is inherently socialist. People who support Sanders want to totally upend the system. Us #YangGang want capitalism to work for us.
3) Yang has spent his entire career in the private sector, as opposed to Bernie who only has (extensive) govt experience. So Yang looks at #FightFor15 and thinks "This can hurt small businesses" and Sanders discovers that its hard to run a business. cnbc.com/2019/07/25/for…

Here are just a few reasons why all #blackpeople #Blacktwitter #BlackLivesMatter should #GoogleAndrewYang

1) #FreedomDivided of 1K/mo for all US adults. Could help build black wealth quickly. 3 fam adults living together = $3K/Mo buy a 200K house in 5.5 years #YangGang
2) On top of the #FreedomDividend, he also recognizes the historical injustices done to us through slavery and supports the exploratory bill in Congress to figure out reparations logistics. #Yang2020

3) Our boy @AndrewYang also wants massive criminal justice reform. Every cop gets a camera and turning it off is assumption of guilt, no private prisons, decrim of weed and opiates, and mass pardoning for those in jail for nonviolent drug charges. #GoogleAndrewYang #YangGang

@Lau_Bast @jkennyamdg @AndrewYang Hi Laura,

Good question. I see you got a lot of responses from #YangGang.

There won’t be any price controls on Main Street businesses because it’s a free market so you can take that off the table.

Local businesses have been struggling to compete against big box retailers...
@Lau_Bast @jkennyamdg @AndrewYang Since the last Great Recession.

When they finally have more people in their community coming in to get haircuts, car repairs and have things like dental repairs done...they’ll be thrilled for the steady business.

Jacking up prices would push away those very customers...
@Lau_Bast @jkennyamdg @AndrewYang To their competitors.

Local businesses don’t operate like an oil cartel and thus don’t collude on price fixing. They aren’t nature more pure market driven.

The second thing that will happen is they will need to hire more people as the demand increases...

2/ @AndrewYang built nonprofit Venture for America and ran it for 7 years. Trained entrepreneurs to help create jobs in cities like Detroit, Cleveland, St Louis, Birmingham, New Orleans. Was given awards by Obama Administration and had documentary made by Netflix.
3/ Yang discovered there was a deeper problem. Every job he helped create, he realized we lost a thousand. “I saw that we were pouring water into a bathtub that has a giant hole ripped in the bottom.”

The way we get @AndrewYang's #FreedomDividend of $1k/mo for all citizens signed into law is to have a Congress full of reps who will get it through the House + Senate. We need to vote for pro-UBI reps & we need to give the boot to anti-UBI reps. Ask Congress candidates about UBI.
If you live in New York's 13th district, @JFKii is running on UBI. He would sign the Freedom Dividend of $1,000/mo into law.

In boosting for @AndrewYang , I am coming to realize that the mainstream left (even the more classically “bleeding heart” style of liberal), is just as likely as the right to interpret poverty as a result of a defect of Character rather than of circumstances. 1/?
The number of Democrats who respond to the idea of the $1000/mo #FreedomDividend being offered as an *OPTIONAL* replacement to welfare benefits by claiming that the poor will spend the money on drugs or alcohol is staggering. 2/?
I’ve literally had people tell me that if the “we” don’t tell people in how to spend the money that they’ll just end up worse off. Hidden in this “logic” is an implicit belief that welfare is not meant as a boost out of poverty, but as a containment/damage control mechanism. 3/?

Women's labor has been purposely artificially cheapened or valued at zero by the managerial/capitalist class for a few reasons, and the #FreedomDividend undercuts all of them from several angles while also laying the groundwork for a kinder society (thread).
1) If women stay home, they provide the material foundation from which workers emerge. That "free" female labor allows the employer to outsource the cost of raising and feeding and supporting laborers.
2) Employers have no incentive to let go of the social illusion that women's pay is "supplementary" to men's (whether the woman in question is married to a working spouse or not). Hiring women and paying them less gives employers more bargaining power vis-a-vis male employees.

Holy shit. They did it. The crazy bastards did it. @MSNBC created a graphic with photos of the 20 candidates to appear in the first debates, and they actually went so far as to remove @AndrewYang and include someone who didn't even qualify. This is shameless in how brazen it is.
Looks like we made enough noise, #YangGang. @AndrewYang has been unerased by @MSNBC (and @marwilliamson too). #Yang2020
Good Lord. @MSNBC just can't help themselves. In the latest example, they include his photo in a list of top 8, and manage to read every name but @AndrewYang's??

Yang needs to engage indigenous communities. The impact on rural indigenous communities would be astounding. It would allow us to stand up, develop our economies, and help finally end the Indian Wars. #YangGang
There are more than 5 million of us and the #FreedomDividend would change everything. some families have been here since BEFORE the Younger Dryas, mass migration to cities for work, healthcare, education is not the answer. Economic sovereignty is.
Other candidates play Indian or just give lip service. true engagement, nation to nation, human to human, and real economic empowerment is what we need.

Trick question: Which slices of this pie would benefit most from $1,000/month?

If so many people benefit, why are the detractors obsessed with groups that don't even make a dark line on the chart?

#YangGang #BasicIncome #FreedomDividend @AndrewYang
If your argument is against #FreedomDividend or #BasicIncome because "something, something, people in the black part of this graph," then why are you willing to hold back 88% of the nation over it? It took me a while to compile this visualization, but opposition seems petty.
Clearly, I feel for the "working poor," but they are this many of us. Less than 4% work 40+hrs/week and earn below the poverty line. If a policy will benefit them ... AND another 84% of the nation significantly, then which is the better policy? #MATH
