Puy Jarrige II cave is located in the commune of Brive, in "Les Rebières". More precisely, it is located in a Triassic sandstone, on the right side of the Courolle valley, near the Corrèze river. There is a cave called Puy Jarrige I, but it has only archaeological deposits.
▶️Puy Jarrige II is a small cave barely 10 metres long. Two spaces can be distinguished: a shelter and a diverticulum. Apart from the Palaeolithic engravings, there are medieval remains in some parts of the cave.

Today we are going to visit a well-known cave for its great animal representations, especially the spotted horses, but what about the humans?
Although this cave was known to locals, it was not until 1922 that the speleologist A. David, his sister Martha and Henri Dutertre, discovered the so-called “decorated cave.” Later, the parietal study was carried out by A. Lemozi, A. Leroi-Gourhan and M. Lorblanchet.

⁉️Covaciella cave is located in the far east of Asturias, on Las Pandas mountain. It is located in a rugged environment, near the Casaño river. This site has a single level where Palaeolithic representations and archaeological deposits are distributed throughout it.
📖Covaciella was discovered in 1994 by accident, when road works opened an entrance to its interior.
➡️ F. J. Fortea was the first author investigating it, followed by P. Saura and M. Múzquiz and, finally, the team of M. García-Díez.

⁉️The site is located on the banks of the Tormes River, in the municipality of Salamanca (Spain). It consists of several rocky outcrops of slate. It was discovered in 2013 by A. Hernández Morán and M. Pantrigo. 👇😉
📖Subsequently, the researchers D. Garate, J. Ríos-Garaizar, R. Pérez, R. Rojas and M. Santonja revealed a series of panels whose technique is identified with percussion-engraving and incised engraving (Garate et al. 2016).

We refer to the Cueva de Navarro, located in the province of Malaga (Andalusia, Spain), in the extreme south of Europe.
The cave was discovered by chance in 1979, when its galleries were intercepted by the Navarro Quarry front, and it was published for the first time in 1981 by José Luis Sanchidrián 📖🔎.

⁉️Chufin cave, also known as the cave of Moro Chufín, is located on a cliff above the reservoir of La Palombera, at the confluence of the rivers Lamasón and Nansa, in Cantabria. It was discovered in 1972 by Manuel de Cos Borbolla and the reservoir guard Primo González. ⚓️
➡️The rock art of this cave is made up of two main groups: the indoor paintings and the outer engravings. The group of red paintings inside the cave was discovered on 30 March 1972, and shortly afterwards Martín Almagro identified the group of rock engravings on the outside.

⁉️ The cave is made up of a rectilinear passage with a total development of 70 m, where the wall art only takes up 50 m. It is made up of more than 340 figures, including zoomorphs, ideomorphs and various marks.
➡️The techniques used by the artists who frequented the cavity were fine engraving and the application of red and black colorants, in some cases taking advantage of the natural relief of the rock to complete the figures.

This pioneer #14CAMSdating was carried out on a sample of pigment from a black punctuation of this wall👆⚫️. The analysis was executed by H. Valladas, H. Cachier and M. Arnol of #CNRS (Laboratory Gif-sur-Yvette). RESULT: 14290 +-180 BP
The Spectrometric Mass Accelerator (AMS) applied on radiocarbon analysis revolutionized the Archeology (and of the Paleolithic Art study, of course!). This first dating was carried out in #Tandetron accelerator and with only 0.80 mg of datable carbon (sample AFTER pretreatment).

🗺️Cualventi Cave is located in the district of Perelada (Oreña, Alfoz de Lloredo, Cantabria), 2 km from Altamira. The cave opens in the wall of a wide and shallow doline, inside a small valley close to the coast.
⁉️ It's a large rock shelter with two openings. The lower one, #LaCovacha, is a small cave linked with the karst system and was obstructed during the Magdalenian. The upper one, #Cualventi, is located 4m above and provides direct access to the fossil floors of the karst. 🤔

➡️We refer to the Cueva de la Lluera I, a small cave located a few meters from the Nalón River (Asturias, Spain) and which was scientifically discovered in 1979 and first studied by Professor Javier Fortea.
📖The artistic activity is found in outdoor areas and in twilight, concentrating on the walls of the left gallery, very close to the entrance.

⁉️This is a really small cave (with least than 30 meters of development), currently accessed through a small hole in #Ertxiña mountain.
💭It would be interesting to known how was the cave during the Upper Paleolithic. ➡️Currently, there are a lot of blocks and some speleothems.

➡️⁉️The Carranza River is a short river that rises in Karrantza (Bizkaia) and connects with the Asón River in Ramales de la Victoria (Cantabria). The Carranza gorge is the only way out of the valley and is characterized by an abrupt karstic orography plenty of caves and shelters.
❗️📚More than twenty archaeological sites are known (27) although the archaeological information in many cases is deficient. There are 7 decorated caves, 5 in Cantabria and 2 in the Basque Country.

Etxebarri is a pyrenean cave with #Magdalenian rock art, placed in the beautiful massif of Arbailles, in the hearth of #Zuberoa, #BasqueCountry.
The bison we have presented here is not especially wonderful, but it stands out because of its location deep inside the cave. 👇😉

The rock art is placed 150 meters away from the entrance. It is not a big distance, but one must cross dry lakes, climb dangerous, slippery and steep flowstones, and very narrow crawlways. 😖📸
