#Frugal engineering and value #innovation are serving as a source of #sustainable competitive advantage for our Khordha factory in #Odisha. The electrical team at the factory has developed an in-house centralized information system from scratch.
This system generally requires huge investments and complex third-party surveys to administer.

The Khordha factory sees a demand of 5.8 MW of power at any given point in time. Spread over an area of 37 acres means that the factory has nearly 600 touchpoints capturing the energy
readings for different parts of the factory. The maintenance team would traditionally walk the length and breadth of the premises to track the amount of energy being used by different units of the factory.

Tim Ferris @tferriss interviewed Morgan Housel @morganhousel, the renowned author of Psychology of Money, one of the most insightful books on behavioral finance.

We listened to this 3-hour podcast and here are the insights that resonated with us.

A thread ....🧵
1/ On passing wealth to kids

If you are fortunate enough to save money, make sure to pass only enough to have a safety net without giving them fuel for entitlement. As Buffet said, “Leave enough money so they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing”
👇
2/ On gaming the market

Market cycles are unique. 2020 biological crisis was not the same as 2008 financial crisis. Even the most rational investors gave in to fear and panic. We respond to risk in different ways. Be greedy when others are fearful is easier said than done.

Did you know? 🤔

@Apple’s $3t market cap means it would be the 5th largest economy in the world if it were a country - larger than France, Italy, and the UK.🤯

Check out some other crazy numbers behind the world’s largest company👇
(1/8)
The #iPhone product line alone brings Apple over half its revenue. Talk about the importance of a flagship product! 🏆

(2/8)
42% of Apple’s revenue comes from the Americas, with Europe and China making up 85%. Notice how Africa and Oceania aren’t even on here - will we see #expansion in those markets soon?🌍

My post on LinkedIn about my interview experience in 1996 @amazon blew up. But a bunch of people asked me why I left after 3 yrs and boomeranged 14 years later. So I thought I’d tell the story here #AWS #amazon #techjobs

Everyone assumes that if you’re “successful” by some measure they seen you got there through a series of brilliant chess moves or you were an overnight #success. Occasionally that’s true, but far more often it looks like this
My first 3 years at amazon were amazing. We changed the world of #ecommerce, survived competitive threats that were supposed to kill us, invented lots of 😎 #tech that’s now commonplace in websites. But it was also exhausting. I worked 6-7 days a week, every week for 3 years 😓

I found out my water usage is ~10x higher than expected. So I'm doing what any normal human would do, point a Nest cam at the meter and periodically log usage in a spreadsheet. Image
I even created an activity zone over the ones digit in Nest so it annotates the timeline whenever usage changes 😂
My back of the envelope expected usage is 160 gallons/day, but actual usage is coming out to 1600 gallons/day. The difference is as if I have a leak somewhere losing 1 gallon per minute, every minute!

I'd actually be more relieved if it's a leak and not my gluttonous water usage
