✅Return on Equity= ROE
✅Return on Assets= ROA
✅Return on Invested Capital= ROIC
✅Internal Rate of Return= IRR
✅Cash Flow Return on Investment= CFROI
✅Market-Expected Return on Investment= MEROI

🧵 Thread… sorry it’s long… I’ve been spending far too many hours this hols nerding out on GPT-3 and the impressive potential of AI language models. #artificialintelligence #chatbot #gptchat

GPT-3 is basically blowing my mind right now.
For those who don't know, it's an awesome AI language model developed by OpenAI. It uses algorithms and massive amounts of data to generate human-like text and other stuff… it's seriously impressive.
There’s various other AI systems but I’ve always found them very pedestrian, not fun or useful.

ChatGPT is on another level.

A lesser-known piece of tech history from the late 80s and early 90s and what that can learn us about the implications for today's long-term tech investing.
(h/t WSJ)
1/10
In the late 80s, the tech sector had lost its mojo. Since the 1960s, the Cold War had spurred big defense investments in tech, but the Cold War was over now.

2 important things revived tech in the early 1990s.
2/10
The first initiative was legislative: the High-Performance Computing Act of 1991, better known as the Gore Bill.

The goal? To build the "Information superhighway" aka the internet. ARPANET had already started the evolution in the sixties & implemented the TCP/IP protocol.

Ever wondered how you can sort records by a popularity metric, but add a time discount? (e.g. newer records rank higher)

I asked #gptchat and it came up with this formula:

ORDER BY upvotes_count * POW(0.998, extract(day FROM CURRENT_DATE - startups.featured_at)) DESC
It takes a popularity metric (in this case upvotes_count) and multiplies it by a time-discount multiplier.

The longer ago a startup was featured, the lower this number.

Here's how it works:
It calculates the days since the startup was featured:

extract(day FROM CURRENT_DATE - startups.featured_at)

For example, this might return 60 for a startup featured two months ago

🧵 There's been a lot of criticism that #gptchat provides inaccurate information. Thought I'd test this with a series of military-themed questions. I'll let experts judge the accuracy of the results.

1. Friedrich Nietzsche was a man of many mysteries in his youth, he was a philosopher, a poet, and an alien hunter - the ultimate trifecta!
He believed in individual power, which meant that every individual should strive for greatness and take control of their own destiny.
2. The day the aliens attacked Basel was a day to remember.
Nietzsche felt a strange presence around, he saw an alien spacecraft hovering above him.
He thought this is my time to shine, quickly grabbed his doctor who gun and fired off a volley of shots at the alien craft.
3. After the attack, he left as fast as he could toward Japan in hope to harness the power to stand against the alien forces.
As he ran, Nietzsche felt a strange sense of destiny - Puns and jokes aside, he was determined to show them who own the will and kick their octo-asses.

With just a brief example you can teach #GPTchat how to generate #AIart prompt templates for any topic (and yes, you can get it to dream up the topics too!) and then create matching prompts ImageImageImage
Then you can get it to generate random descriptions based on those templates... ImageImage
Which text-to-image #AI can then turn into images! ImageImageImageImage

One issue I saw though is that the links to the references it cites are inaccurate. Here we are talking about machine learning classification and it cites this instead (not relevant): ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

Several e.g. with similar results.

So, I hate to pile on the @OpenAI #gptchat train, but it just wrote my business plan, identified my customer segments, collected my TAM statistics, wrote my pitch deck and pitch script and came up with my fictional coffee machine startup's competitive edge. @Jason
It also predicted what questions investors would ask about my pitch and generated answers for each question. AMAZING!

I feel like tools like this can democratize Entrepreneurship in major way!

I'll post screenshots in a bit after OpenAI is back up.
Business Plan (I also asked it to expand on each point to make it paragraphs and it worked great) ImageImageImage

I asked it 'what makes good climate legislation'. It answered, in seconds, with machine generated text:

These #AI text generation algorithms are getting scarily good at general code, blogs and poems. But does it work on something so niche as @HL7 #FHIR?

My testing below 👇
Let's start simple, please generate me a #FHIR patient resource with a name and birth date. And yes ✅ it generates a flawless Patient instance with a name and birthDate value (that validates with no issues: simplifier.net/snippet/wardwe…)

It even includes some extra explanation... Image
Let's make it a bit harder.

This algorithm remembers our previous conversation, so we can just continue with asking it to add an extension for capturing the patient's 'Race' value, for which the US Core IG has a common extension: hl7.org/fhir/us/core/S… 👇 Image
