On the 4th anniv of the assassination of #GauriLankesh: a thread to remind us of the Hindu-supremacist terrorists who trained, armed & instigated her killers - and the fact that the same terrorists are targeting many of us today. Read where the case stands thenewsminute.com/article/gauri-…
Hindu-supremacist outfit @SanatanSanstha is named by SIT as responsible for the assassination of not only Gauri but activists and writers Dabholkar and Pansare, & academic Prof Kalburgi. All were targeted for writing against “Hindutva” - Hindu-supremacist ideology & politics.
Sanatan Sanstha, linked with a 2009 blast in Goa, shares its Goa HQ with @HinduJagrutiOrg . Both together organise a yearly All India Hindu Convention explicitly calling to turn secular India into a Hindu Nation in which minorities will be 2nd class citizens.

KCOCA is a law enacted by Karnataka in India since 2000 to combat organised crime and terrorism. The Act was modelled on the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA)

Three years ago this day, Sept 5, around this hour, Bangalore-based journalist and human rights activist GAURI LANKESH was assassinated.
Any squeak in the mainstream media today?
The Hindu, Bangalore edition, today carries a full page, repeat full page, Oped about a Bombay film industry actor who died two months ago and who a lot of us had never heard of earlier.
Deccan Herald, Bangalore's own newspaper, also has acres of stuff on local and Bombay film industry personalities.
Zilch on Gauri.

Three years ago, this day, #GauriLankesh was assassinated. An independent journalist who spoke truth to power, she was one of the fiercest critics of Hindutva politics.

An unparalleled hero amongst us. Rest in Power, Gauri Lankesh.

Today marked five years since #NarendraDabholkar was assassinated while on his morning walk in Pune (thread)

That act robbed Maharashtra and the rest of the country of one of the finest rationalist minds and dogged anti-superstition activists.

#NarendraDabholkar was 67 yrs old
For 18 long years, #NarendraDabholkar and his compatriots had campaigned for an anti-superstition anti-black magic law.
They were convinced that poorest/weakest people were being exploited under the rubric of religious practices though these had little or no religious sanction
On Aug 26, 2013, less than a week after #NarendraDabholkar was shot dead, the Maharashtra govt promulgated an ordinance. And formalised the law in December that year.

Since then, the law has seen amendments which diluted it, the list of banned activities has been reducing.

Post-2014 elections, India hasn’t stopped debating the surge in nationalism, religious hatred and widespread intolerance. In this @risj_oxford paper, I explore how journalists in India were targeted in this age of intolerance and rising nationalism (Thread)

"Nothing protects a journalist so much as public outrage and public support," Woodhull and Snyder wrote. What happens if the public outrage is against journalists themselves? The incident at the Patiala High Court in the heart of New Delhi was unprecedented
