Most people (both men/women) don't seem to get it that some men are more at peace with the rhythms of everyday domestic life. We need to stop looking at it as an emasculation of a man, just as we shouldn't look at a woman prioritizing career as missing a "womanly" instinct. 1/
Through the archaic ideas of what a man/woman should be, we've trapped some (many?) men into roles they positively hate, just as we've trapped (and this percentage is much larger than the former case, I'm sure) many women in domestic roles, their temperament is not suited for. 2/

I give many talks on #GenderEquity and #WomenInMedicine. Two slides I have started sharing are examples of all the incredible work #WomenInMedicine continue to do, and emphasize the fact that this work is largely UNPAID and does not help in the promotions process in academia. 🧵
A survey from @McKinsey @LeanInOrg showed the IMMENSE amt of invisible work taken on during the pandemic by women across >400 companies. This work is necessary for companies and organizations to thrive and function. But the women often see no ROI.

Our healthcare systems, patients, and teams thrive because of the incredible amount of extra work #WomenInMedicine put in, often nights, wknds, "free time." The work is necessary, but does not provide currency, whether financial, or otherwise, needed for career advancement.

2. When I was in college I was out for a run one day in the local woods. I heard a sound behind me and looked back and saw a guy running after me. No big deal right - he's probably out for a run too? Except he's wearing jeans, a suede jacket and boots...
3. I feel that stab of fear (that every woman has felt at some stage) & pick up the pace but I'm near the end of my session and tiring fast. He's gaining on me & I realise I can't outrun him (despite the fact I've represented Ireland in athletics) he's a man and he's just faster!
