My #genuary will be made with #penplotter and most of them will be also interactive streams (participate in real time with the robot). Next session planned tomorrow ~4PM CET with Made in 10 minutes + Glitch Art + Intersections 🀞 hope it will be interesting enough.
Other sessions may be on Saturdays at 7 or 8 AM CET easier to reach non european timezone. continuing with other genuary days.
Each output will be truly generative in that I can't even predict what's going to happen as the inputs will come from the chat!
We'll lag by few days & may try again the same generator over the days too, because there are always different inputs (based on amount of people on the chat) as well as different physical constraints to test (different pen, paper and color choices,...)
so exciting!

Day 3: Space

As an astronomer I can only interpret "space" in one way πŸͺ

However, no space-y image, instead I choose to visualize a (really cool) effect (and one of my favorite courses at uni): Gravitation Lensing

#genuary #genuary2022
Although I wish I did, I just didn't have the time to dive back into the gravitational lensing equations (although they're not that complex if I remember correctly πŸ€”), I'm therefore very grateful for this CodePen, from which I took my lensing code: codepen.io/torovfritz/pen… πŸ™
Darnit! It should've said "GravitationAL Lensing" πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I'm gonna try and keep up with #genuary this year by using p5, and hopefully show off some of the lesser known features of the p5 renderer

Here's my sketch for todays prompt (draw 10,000 of something)

This one uses an undocumented feature of the webGL renderer, that allows you to create custom geo on the fly.

Day 1: Draw 10,000 of something

Ok, so it feels a bit like cheating, since I've been working with grids over the last 2 weeks. But here's some 100x100 grids filled with colorful simple shapes βœ¨πŸ˜†

(2/4) Human experience is in fact precisely what a plotter lacks--it can't see what it draws, it doesn't feel the pressure of the pen on the paper, in fact it doesn't even know it's current position. It just knows that the computer tells it how to move its motors.
(3/4) That is why it was up to me to program some of these features in the algorithm that ultimately controls the motor movements. I use signed distance fields and ray marching to give it a feeling of shape, light and shadow.
