I've been an avid video game player since the 1980's. I've followed the developments in the industry only closely however since around 2009 when the first PC attempts started being overtly made to 'educate' gamers about what was 'wrong' with them.
I was on Twitter when the whole "GamerGate" thing exploded several years ago. The label "GamerGate" was coined by my good friend @AdamBaldwin to describe a scandal where an industry was starting to attack/marginalizing it's customer base.

This is pretty simple to explain. AAA Gaming is part of establishment media now, just like movies, TV and music.

It got big enough that the powers that be, made sure to fund and organise a takeover by loyalists.
It doesn't matter that this stuff fails to make money, unless you were a sucker who bought stock in gaming companies.

They're cool with taking the L financially, to ensure that video games stay "on message" just like everything else you were bored of.
If you Stan for the industry, you're a chump. Triple A in the west is as much a part of the pig system as Hollywood and the rest of the Big Five. Expect them to quietly end up as subsidiaries of those 5 companies in the next few years.
