Ever since I learned that among the poet Muriel Rukeyser’s assignments for her writing students was to begin a poem with the words “I could not say,” I've been captivated by what I could not say.
So I've been writing my way into the silences.

Each successive birthday, I take stock of what I have not been able to say.

Talk about shame because abortion bans are intent on punishing us for daring to take ownership of our bodies and our sexual desire outside of the norm.

How often do films center a woman in her early 60s? I am 54yo and can barely watch films & TV shows these days because they’re too often about high school students or 31yos whose dilemmas are too far in my past to care about & whose parents are too peripheral to keep my attention
