to pause at some point. A tired traveler needs strength to continue the journey. We may think we need more time at this point of exhaustion, but what we need might just be a brief pause.

Starting my MSc program late last year, I had several plans to execute. At a point, my...
...mind was clouded. I knew it was going to affect my focus, so I decided to "pause". I took a walk to behold the beauty of nature and of course pray. Pausing helped me to restrategise, refuel, and enjoy clarity which have helped me thus far.

So, pausing revitalises one and ...

A thread on how to choose MS/Ph.D. programs if you have multiple offers (from International Students' perspective, @Omviser1 )

Disclaimer: These are my personal thoughts and do not represent any organizations that I'm associated with.

#gradschool @AcademicsSay #phdstudent
Before I jump in, some background:

When I chose Penn State over my other acceptances (UIUC, Purdue, UC Santa Barbara etc.), my friends and family were surprised to hear that I gave up a top 5 school to attend a top 15/20 in my area.

Sharing my decisioning criteria below 👇
While funding wasn't an issue to me at all, I encourage everyone to think from a ROI perspective at MS or Ph.D. levels.

I read somewhere that an acceptance without proper funding is essentially a polite decline. $$ matters.

1/n - As a grad student/fellow for 5 years, the experience isn’t a whole lot. However, permit me to share a few tips/lessons I have learned in grad school for the benefit of intending grad student.

2/n - You should not underestimate the importance of reading and studying. There’s always something new in your field. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to be aware of advancements in your field. It will help you look forward to “what’s next” in the field.
3/n - Before you’re in grad school (I’d put this up there too), do a great deal of research into your choice of mentor. That mentor will play a great role in shaping what kind of researcher/student you become. Trust me, you want to watch the kind of shoulders you stand on.

-there are many different styles as there are people

Now Lauren Niu, Steven B. Torrisi and @AlxndriaTH3Gr8 will talk about writing a statement of purpose! #wocp #thewocproject2020 #graduateschool #womeninstem
What is a statement of purpose (SOP)?? The SOP for graduate school is a more specialized and focused document, it is NOT like the college essay! It is a statement of:
-Research experience
-research interests
-how you fit into the program
#research #gradschool #sop #womeninstem
Big thing to keep in mind is who your audience is and you have an advantage bc you know who they are, they are profs, researchers at universities!

Some schools may offer relocation expenses, but most do not. It's important to pay attention to your acceptance letter and see what they offer. #gradschool #moving

(Thread) Hello everyone, I'm Leonardo Jo, a PhD Candidate at the Plant Biology Department (@ucdavisbiology). A couple of months ago, I asked the GRADUATE STUDENT community at @ucdavis to participate in an anonymous and voluntary survey about mental health and student well-being.
I'll show the preliminary results in this thread. If you have any comments or questions, please contact me (ljo@ucdavis.edu). I'm not an expert in the subject, so any help will be appreciated. Also, could you please retweet this so it will reach our graduate student community?
We had a total of 396 participants in the survey (Huge thanks to the Graduate Student community). Hopefully this survey can be used to promote change in the academic culture and enhance access of mental health services in our university.
