Star Wars 🧵 - I miss Tony Gilroy. I miss his Lucas energy. He was clearly a great leader. #Andor had a singular vision. It told its story & it told it beautifully. Gilroy had his middle finger to social media & that's what Star Wars needs. Disney put the "rebel" back in SW. 1/5
#TheMandalorian was a STELLAR show & it's been really sad watching it flounder. The Children of the Watch aren't good. They aren't heroes. This had better not be where we're going. I hope I'm wrong but this season has not been nearly as strong as the first two. 2/5
We fell in love w/ a father & son story which has been ditched to tell the story of...the villains. I hope this isn't where we end but we're half way & Mandos are getting more time. #Grogu is as cute as ever but he's just been a set piece so far. The shows heart is missing. 3/5

Enhanced Mandalorian: Brendan Wayne, the Din who slings the guns and grappling hooks, and my fave Grogu dad in the mando outfit. This is my current phone background, choose it/use it for your own phone 💚

And yes I can easily tell the mandos apart. Yep. I have done a lot of studying🤣

On one side of Excalibur, it is written: "Take Me Up." On the other side, it is written: "Cast Me Away."

Excalibur is a symbol of the responsibility of power, and Luke's lightsaber across his journey represents this.
Set shortly after Return of the Jedi (some time between 3 and 5 years), the Luke Skywalker we see on The Mandalorian is still in the "Take Me Up" phase of his use of the laser sword.

He's building upon what he knew of his training.
"You think what? I’m gonna walk out with a laser sword and face down the whole First Order?”

Luke says this to Rey because he's evolved past this, though when he says it, he's not been able to synthesize all of the lessons of his past.

“Because I was Luke Skywalker. Jedi Master. A legend.”

It honestly, truly blows my mind that some people don’t see (or don’t want to see) how #LukeSkywalker in #TheMandalorian connects so beautifully to Luke in #TheLastJedi. It adds immense emphasis to so much of what TLJ is. ImageImageImage
When we find Luke in #TheLastJedi, he’s broken because of a fall from grace we didn’t see. But we understand that it’s because the heights he fell from were so great. He distances himself from the Skywalker of old because he sees himself as a microcosm of a failed way of life.
He speaks multiple times about the inherent pressure & the fallibility of his legendary status. He even goes so far as to say “You don't need Luke Skywalker. You think what? I'm gonna walk out with a laser sword and face down the whole First Order?”

“Just for once, let me look on you with my own eyes.”

Thinking about this #Mandalorian parallel has had me so emotional. Pure poetry, but with a beautiful inverse effect. Now, the son asks the father. And not in death, & not in an ending. But with a promise of new beginnings.
The whole idea of the past (Luke) looking upon the present & seeing his story reflected, while we the viewers are focused in on #Grogu & Din, just works for me. Some will call the episode “safe.” I call it a synthesis of new & old. Which is what #StarWars is to me.
The foundation of #StarWars is a reinterpretation if myth & classic influences. SW fans know them well! But now, the myth that it reinterprets IS STAR WARS. So what do you do? You can’t run from that. So you embrace it. You embrace it in ways like this.

Time for an adventure set in my #Disneyland RPG, where the kingdom has been taken over by the Disney Villains.

First we need a protagonist! No one famous, or even particularly heroic, just a small someone doing their best to survive these dark days.

Someone like...
2. As one of the feral cats of #Disneyland, your life hasn't changed TOO much since the Villains take over. You leave them alone; they leave you alone. Meow meow.

This neverending thunderstorm has been QUITE bothersome, though, and you've had to seek shelter... but where?
3. The Skyway station is (relatively) warm and dry, and has been abandoned for so long that few in #Disneyland even remember it exists. Thus, the perfect place for a cat to nap.

Until tonight. Your rest is interrupted by someone ascending the stairs. You open one eye, and spy...
