Looking forward to giving the 2019 @theRSAorg President's lecture on #climateemergency and responses from government and business later. You can watch it here live here from about 6pm: bit.ly/2ou31Pk #RSAclimate
@theRSAorg @EnvAgency @ShareAction @GCAdaptation @WRIClimate @AdaptOurWorld @DefraGovUK @DFID_Climate @PRI_News @GRI_LSE @RSAEvents The #climateemergency needs to be at the heart of everything people do. It should not be given a cursory 10 minutes at the Board meeting before everyone gets back to “the business of business”. The climate crisis IS “the business of business”. #RSAclimate
@theRSAorg @EnvAgency @ShareAction @GCAdaptation @WRIClimate @AdaptOurWorld @DefraGovUK @DFID_Climate @PRI_News @GRI_LSE @RSAEvents The @IPCC_CH’s 1.5°C report is not only momentous because of what it says: it is a towering achievement because it managed to get scientists and government officials from forty different countries to agree on a single document. #RSAclimate

Thread 1/ #Typhoon Hagibis made landfall in #Japan and has caused widespread flooding with human lives lost. Spare a thought for those in Japan who need help at present. #Fukushima Daiichi. But some are using this storm to promote scientific misinformation
2/ I am seeing posts that link the #radioactive contamination/decay heat from #Fukushima Daiichi & the development of tropical cyclones like #Hagibis and going so far as to say the human caused global warming is not like to #CO2 but nuclear fallout/contamination
3/ The argument goes something like this and is summarized in a blog I posted some time ago @dailykos dailykos.com/stories/2016/1…:
1. Fukushima released radionuclides to the environment with much of the contamination ending up in the Pacific Ocean
2. Isotopes generate heat on decay

I offer condolences on behalf of all Indians on the loss of life caused by super-typhoon #Hagibis in Japan. I wish early recovery from the damage and devastation caused by this natural calamity.
I am sure that the preparedness and resilience of the Japanese people and the leadership of my friend @AbeShinzo would be able to address the aftermath effectively and quickly. Japan’s preparedness against natural disasters is well appreciated.
India stands in solidarity with Japan at this difficult hour. Personnel of the Indian Navy, in Japan on a scheduled visit, will be happy to assist immediately.

#HAGIBIS #TYPHOON COMING TO #JAPAN

In #Tokyo's #Shibuya ward, you notice little of the threatening storm that is approaching

Until you want to get water or cash

None of the stores I visited had large water bottles (even though they bought extra stock), ATM's had people waiting
#HAGIBIS #TYPHOON COMING TO #JAPAN

Apparently there also many stores where far more than water has been sold out

#Tokyo and surrounding areas seem to be getting ready for something serious
