1/ To safeguard the city’s human rights and liberty, Hongkongers hope the new US administration can continue standing with HK and safeguarding our democratic values because supporting HK against suppressions is not a matter of left or right, but a matter of right or wrong.
2/ Beijing has never stopped its crackdowns on HK’s liberty, from the arrests of tens of thousands of HK protesters, the appointment of party committee members to university board, to the recent launch of national security hotlines that encourages snitching on neighbors.
3/ As far as I am aware, @KamalaHarris was also one of the co-sponsors of #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct. When Beijing started to use the new draconian law to arrest HK protesters, @JoeBiden condemned the repression and urged putting American values back to its foreign policy.

The first annual certification of HK’s autonomy under #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct is imminent. @demosisto, @Stand_with_HK, @HKHIIAD, @SunnyCheungky have jointly initiated an open letter addressing to @SecPompeo. We welcome everyone to co-sign it: bit.ly/LettertoSecret… ImageImage
1/ To bring universal suffrage back in the agenda of Chinese & HKGov, full democratization of its government and legislature should be explicitly featured as an important condition for future annual certifications.
2/ To demonstrate a deterrent effect for further erosion of human rights in HK, formal investigations should be launched by USGov to identify and consider sanctioning HKGov officials who are directly responsible for extensive police brutality that grossly violated human rights.

1/ Six months after the passing of #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct, #US @StateDept will deliver its first annual certification of Hong Kong’s autonomy as specified in the Act. The Act is designed to safeguard #HK’s autonomy and freedoms from #China’s growing influence.
2/ However, over past 8 months, #Beijing and #HKGov have intensified its strong-arm policies on #HKers. Extra 2.5 billion dollars have been spent on expanding police forces, with its budget on purchasing teargas & rubber bullets tripled.
3/ Clearly, #China plans another bloody crackdown upon pro-democracy #hongkongprotests. Not to mention that #China is imposing a new sinofication on the city and turning #Hongkong into another Mainland city.

[THREAD: Hong Kong on 112]

1/ Conflicts re-kindled during weekend as hundreds of thousands took to streets in HK Island protesting unfair election screening and demanding free-election. By 8PM arrest no. went up to 200+ with police brutality. ImageImageImageImage
2/ The assembly was yielding US Congress to support #HKHRDA. I was to speak about banning of my candidacy but peaceful assembly was arbitrarily called off by police. Minutes after, Central became smoky as police fired teargas, injuring a lot without masks. ImageImageImageImage
3/ At #VictoriaPark, election hustings halted as police arrested 3 candidates on top of teargas and pepper spray. One had clear wound on his face during arrest. ImageImageImage

2/ Profound changes swept across the city throughout the anti-extradition movement. With reference to #HKHumanRightsandDemocracyAct & #MagnitskyAct, we call on various nations for more protective measures and sanctions against human rights abuser in Hong Kong.
3/ The city is under the creeping threat from China on the heels of four months of protests. Days ago President Xi vowed to shatter the protests. Our autonomy and cause for democracy are at stake. That's why HKers have been standing tall in our battles for freedoms.

Graffiti is becoming more common across Hong Kong. You can often see it in protest hotspots, but it is becoming increasingly common in neighborhoods which are not hotspots. Here I will thread the graffiti I come across, starting with these seen at HKU.

Graffiti isn't limited to messages scrawled with a can, there is also a lot of great stencil art. Quick and effective. These were a few spotted sprayed on the ground.
#PepetheFrog also features in protest related graffiti. He's an expressive character and clearly very fun to draw.
