NEW: Democrats vowed to take on Big Pharma and the overwhelming majority of the party wants to do so. But leaders are now working to water down their drug pricing plans in the face of resistance from a handful of members in the House & Senate politico.com/news/2021/09/3… w @misswilson
@misswilson The changes under discussion include:
-subjecting fewer drugs to negotiation
-not extending the lower prices to people on private insurance
-not pegging prices here to those paid by countries that negotiate with pharma companies
politico.com/news/2021/09/3…
@misswilson Progressives acknowledge that a watered-down #HR3 may be the best they can get under the circumstances, but they're warning leaders against bending too far in moderates' direction.

“For every action there are collateral reactions,” @PeterWelch warned. politico.com/news/2021/09/3…

For all the talk about the ACA being a "giveaway to the insurance industry," it actually put some serious regulations on both their practices and profit margins.

Tackling the hospital and drug industries ("providers") will be a much tougher battle.
Part of the problem for battling each of them PR-wise:

--Hospitals: Unlike insurance carriers, which are generally perceived as faceless voices on a phone, at a hospital, you can at least SEE a bunch of expensive equipment & a bunch of trained professionals doing stuff.
--Drug Companies: They've had just as terrible a reputation in the public eye as insurance carriers...but in the COVID age, suddenly they've been given an opening to (rightly or wrongly) play Saviors of the Human Race...AND THEY KNOW IT.

Here's an ad from just this morning:

📣 Ahead of tonight’s big speech: I have no idea if he’ll give an update on ACA enrollment, but if he does, I’m guessing he’ll announce over 1.0 million ADDITIONAL exchange enrollees via HealthCare.Gov alone since the relaunched enrollment period started on 2/15.
According to @JStein_WaPo, it sounds like Biden will be proposing $200B to make the expanded #ACA subsidies permanent, but no other major healthcare provisions *at the moment*. This actually makes more sense than you may think given this poll: acasignups.net/21/04/27/huh-s…
Having said that, the WH resistance to going bigger in healthcare *at the moment* seems to center around passing #HR3 to pay for other stuff, which is fiercely opposed by #PhRMA.

Sen. McConnell has been stalling progress for the American people for far too long.

#COVID19 relief for families and businesses, common sense gun safety legislation, and healthcare protections are just a few of the HUNDREDS of bills awaiting action on his desk.

A list...
It’s been 510 days since the House passed #HR8 -- a common sense, bipartisan, gun safety bill that could save lives.

Still no vote in the Senate.

🚨📹#ICYMI: Speaker Pelosi was joined at her weekly presser by Rep. Adam Schiff, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee. LOTS of #ImpeachmentInquiry news after a week of jaw-dropping revelations.💥See below💥

But first, news about work in the House to #LowerDrugCosts w/ #HR3.
With #MadamSpeaker's stellar leadership, the Democratic House Majority is more than able to WALK + CHEW GUM at the same time.

As they've been doing throughout self-labeled #GrimReaper McConnell's obstruction, @HouseDemocrats are working #ForThePeople and to #ExposeTheTruth.
@HouseDemocrats Just as the past week has confirmed how ill-suited Trump is to the task of being President, it has made something else crystal clear:

❤️NANCY PATRICIA D'ALESANDRO PELOSI WAS MADE FOR THIS MOMENT.❤️

Thank you #MadamSpeaker for your principled leadership to #ProtectOurDemocracy.
